I have used DNS for years on a PC. Now I am changing into a new PC desktop.
1.  I do I need to go uninstall DNS from my old computer?
2. What files do I need to keep?
3. Are there only a limited number of installations?  How do I find out mine?
4. Is there a specific order I need to follow?

i'm sure this has been answered in the past, but I didn't find it today. Thanks for your patience.

Intel processor, 32 gig ram, 1 TB SSD, 3 in 1 boom Mic and sound card, DNS v 15 I think?

1. While you are not required to uninstall Dragon from your previous computer, you should still do it. This would prevent someone, who didn't purchase Dragon, from using it and would also give you back 1 of your activations. For example, what happens if the Dragon Professional 16 Upgrade (requires Dragon 15 serial number) doesn't work out for you. You can always go back

2. When installing Dragon 16 on a virgin computer, we like to copy our Ver. 15 %LOCALAPPDATA%\Nuance\NS15\Users\ folder to a flash drive or safe location. After installing Ver. 16, you will be of prompted to create a user profile. You can stop after you create the user profile, without training and just paste your user profile into the new %LOCALAPPDATA%\Nuance\NS16\Users\ folder address. Dragon 16 does not make any changes to your Dragon 15 user profile so you don't have to worry about importing.

3. Dragon 15 includes 4 activations. Dragon 16 only includes 2 activations, unless you opt for a VLA license which includes limitless activations and server support. However, note that the VLA version is limited to businesses with a business email address (non-generic email addresses like Gmail)

4. It is hard to make a mistake but there are also too many steps to cover here. We detail those steps in our Dragon Installation/Training Guide (complimentary to our customers), includes details on the installation process, a list of Dragon commands organized by category and pictorial details on fixing 30 sandtraps. Those sandtraps can put the hurt on you

I am using the Dragon installation and training guide 2014 from KnowBrainer. I can follow the instructions down to the point of inserting a DVD which I do not have. I have the discs from DNS 6 thru 13 but when I moved to 15 I downloaded from the company without thinking, when they gave me the offer. Now I do not know what to do, I think I have 1 or 2 activations left on 15.61. I do have the serial number for 15.61. In my downloads folder there is a folder called Dragon Naturally Speaking 15. 1. What do I use to install the Dragon on my new Windows 10 computer? 2. 15.61 is working quite well for me. Is there enough change on Dragon 16 that I should simply give up and go to it and work from there? 3. If I continue on with Dragon 15 where do I find the download to install from? And what do I do when I get to step 5 page 4? Do I simply put in my password once again ? Thank you very much for the help, Fausto (I have been on this forum before using a different email address, which now no longer functions.)

Hi Lunis, my machine died and I am moving my profile to the new machine. Your post above said "%LOCALAPPDATA%\Nuance\NS15\Users\", but I don't have that folder on my Windows 11 machine (running Dragon 15.3). I have "%APPDATA\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking15\Users", so I would use that for Windows 11 machine transfers. I'm posting here to put my visible folders on this chain.

Do you know if it works to transfer a Windows 10 Users profile (%LOCALAPPDATA%\etc) to a Windows 11 machine (%APPDATA%\etc)?

The path for your Dragon user profile doesn't change because of the OS but due to different Dragon versions.

Up to Dragon 15.3 (IIRC), all speakers' profiles were located under %PROGRAMDATA%\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking<Version>\Users and thus available for all users on this machine.

With Dragon 15.5, Nuance moved this path to %LOCALAPPDATA%.

This also had the effect that administrators had to come up with all kinds of workarounds if they wanted to install Dragon on a machine used by several users and not have the speaker profiles spread across all the user profiles.

The Ver. 15.3 address is %PROGRAMDATA%\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking15\Users\ As Mav noted, the address was changed in Ver. 15.6 to %LOCALAPPDATA%\Nuance\NS15\Users\

Thanks Mav! I decided not to copy my profile. Instead, I just built a new one. I trained all my special words, and it took about half an hour. So, I'm back in business.
