Has anyone here tested running DNS on an M1 Mac using VMware Fusion 13?

We haven't tested because we do not use or like Macs but a lot of our customers are successfully using Macs with the M1 chip and the latest VMware fusion

I've extensively used both Mac and Windows computers.  The Mac OS's, which are built in Unix, have been rock solid.  Windows - we'll, it's gotten better over the years.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but my experience with MacOS and several updates (especially with updating Apple's own IDE XCode) is the worst I've had.

Ever.

VMWare is trying what they can to provide a way for virtualization, but there's only so much they can do given the totally different processor architecture of the M1 chip.

In addition, every external device you want to use inside your virtualized Windows has to be routed through your machine into the virtualized Windows with a lot of effort and specialized drivers, adding to the complexity and, thus, reducing stability of such a system.

At this point I'm not even talking about end users who most of the time do not understand why their microphone does not work unless they have redirected it into VMWare Fusion.

I'm happy if it works for you, but from my experience I really would not recommend this environment for anyone.

I've had plenty of problems with Windows.  Blue screen, anyone?

^^^ My own completely unsolicited pennies are as follows:

1. If in 1 week, no one on this forum has chimed in an answer to your liking, then this is likely a Rumsfeldian "unknown unknown" for the moment, at which point you might be better off trail-blazing a little yourself and then come back to share your take, if so inclined.

2. Re-pose your question on the long-running M1/Parallels thread on this forum.  Perhaps one of the subscribers will chime in.  It's more likely that someone already using Parallels, but balking at the cost, might know more first-hand.

3. Windows BSOD nowadays usually portends some show-stopping driver/hardware malfunction.  I confess that I haven't seen one in a decade (essentially none since Windows 7).  Of course, such N=1 feedback is entirely anecdotal and YMMV.  If you are seeing BSOD on an existing Windows rig already, is a "preview" build of Windows 11 for your intended VMWare Fusion going to save the day?  Versus a more reliable Windows rig perhaps?  It's your money and your time.

P.S., Even the original non-UNIX-based Mac OS was more reliable than their Windows counterpart.  Apple just always exercised tighter control and had more uniform QC.  But workstation grade Windows rigs don't exactly fail left and right, either.

P.S. 2, There are other ways to "embed" Dragon, which VMWare/Parallels in essence provide a means for.  The TCO may actually turn out lower if you get DPG which allows remote audio, or do some form of "monkey embedding", which I rattled on earlier, somewhere.  You'd have to trail-blaze/experiment a bit yourself to see if such endeavours are practical on Apple silicon.
