In recent months I noticed that DPI 15.61, which previously worked well, suddenly does not interact anymore with certain apps.

For example:

1. Firefox does no longer accepts any dictation input.

2. The same with a notepad utility I use, Notepad++.

I know for sure that Firefox is not the issue as I have tested it between version 90 & up to the most recent one.

3. Most if not all apps I use work without having to use the DictationBox.

This leaves in this world ongoing updates mania only Windows 10 as the suspect.

4. Who knows how many updates there have been since this problem appeared.  Does anyone know if there is a relevant issue or that the course lies somewhere else?

1.   While Firefox is supposed to be Dragon friendly it's a bit hit & miss. When it works, you will see a green • in the DragonBar. We recommend switching to Microsoft Edge but if you  stick with Firefox, you might want to check out “how to enable dictation” which includes details under the Quick Tips button at the top of this page. Also note that when Dr agon 16 is released, you will really reallywant to switch to Microsoft Edge because Microsoft prefers that you not use any other browser and we guarantee Dragon 16 will work better. It already works better in DPG 15.71

2. Notepad++ is not Dragon friendly but can be made Dragon friendly with a hack. You'll also find a step-by-step on this procedure under the Quick Tips button when you look up “Notepad++”.

3. Most applications are not Dragon friendly. You can tell by the green • in the DragonBar. You may or may not be able to dictate but you won't have full Dragon Full Text Control. There are a lot of reasons why end-users do not like Dragon's DictationBox. We don't like waiting 4 seconds for the DictationBox to open and then having to transfer our DictationBox text. 4. There are no revalent issues with Firefox updates or most other applications

DPI 15.61 used to work in Firefox and then suddenly stopped.

installing it in a virtual machine and playing around it worked.

The oxymoron: You need to uninstall the DPI extension in Firefox!

Then it will work again.

In regards to notepad++ this issue popped up afterversion 7.8.9

reinstalling the older version supposedly it works again.  need to test that.

The only not correctable problem so far I came across is with online interfaces such as support chat and forms. just one character manually added and it responds to the DPI input.

So much for help for people with with disabilities who i.e. cannot use their hands to type!

Online forms can be a bit tricky. Edge or Chrome would probably be a better choice but you may or may not be able to directly dictate. Even if you can directly dictate, you may not have Full Text Control (Select-&-Say). Even though you will probably see a green • in the DragonBar, it doesn't mean dictation will be available. For example, you will not be able to dictate into Facebook, which I personally dislike anyway. However, this is where DragonCapture & KnowBrainer 2020 come into play.
