I just purchased a new computer to be compatible with my upgrade for Allscripts EMR. Only used it 2 days so far.  I really am no longer familiar with the specs necessary to run Dragon but assumed that it was more than 7 years since my last computer so figured with enough RAM it would run the program fine.  Told my IT consultant it needed more processor and RAM to run Dragon specifically.  What I have experienced thus far is slow performance and that is calling up dictation box, activating basic commands, etc. (not in the network).  Wondering if what I ordered is underpowered.

What I have now is Intel R Core (TM) i7-12,700 2.1 gHz with 16 G RAM.  My old CPU was Intel (R) core (TM) i7-4770 @ 3.4 gHz with 16 G RAM which worked great without any slowdowns.    Any insight or recommendations?

Your computer is ample but are you certain that you are not accidentally using your computer's built-in sound system rather than your appropriate speech recognition microphone? This would force Dragon to struggle with your dictation which might only slightly lower your accuracy but could sufficiently impact your dictation speed. You can check this by opening the DragonBar Choose Microphone menu. If you have more than one microphone, the one you are using will be at the top of the list. If it's the wrong microphone, left click on the appropriate microphone followed by pressing the Finish button

Thanks, I checked and there is only one microphone but I dictated for audio settings and it seems slightly quicker opening of the dictation box.  My other thought is that my voice files including commands were brought over and is 1.2 GB.  Would I be better off just starting a new user and exploring/importing custom words and commands to reduce my space footprint?

If you only saw one microphone, we assume it didn't see RealTek. It's not uncommon for Dragon not to find the computer built-in RealTek sound system but that is a good thing in disguise.

In our opinion, 1.2 Gb is slightly too big. We recommend exporting your vocabulary & commands, creating a new user profile and reversing the previous process. Your new user profile should be less than 200 Mb but can increase up to a little over 300 Mb after Dragon backs up your user profile (every 5 times you save your user).

You don't actually have to use Dragon's Dictation Box. You have DragonCapture and KnowBrainer 2020 for Direct Dictation. Also note that many physicians have to disable the auto-gain control. As soon as you create your new user profile, we recommend following the 30 changes that are detailed in the IMPORTANT Setting Recommendations chapter of your KnowBrainer Dragon Installation/Training Guide

I made a new user and am using DragonCapture and Knowbrainer 2020.  Unfortunately though despite my best efforts even with the smaller "new user" it was painfully slow.  Then just for curiosity I switched to USB 2.0 from the blue 3.0.  I thought that the 3.0 would be faster and therefore better but I was wrong.  VXI sound card by the way.

It blew me away how fast it is.  Everything works great now.  Somehow that 3.0 USB port does not like or match up well with the VXI sound card.

Thanks ever so much for all of the advice.

+Frazier,

We originally liked VXi USB soundcards because, unlike other soundcards, they included their own driver on the chip. Every USB soundcard we are familiar with, utilize Windows drivers. Unfortunately, the original chip was designed for Windows XP and Windows 7. We had difficulties with it in Windows 10 and discontinued selling VXi anything. We are impressed with your USB 2 solution and applaud your efforts. You obviously found a great solution. However, in the future, you might want to avoid VXi soundcards.

As far as USB 1 vs 2 vs 3 are concerned there is no advantage in any USB port. You can't find a USB 1 port unless you have a computer from the 90s but even USB 1 is 10 times faster than a USB soundcard can utilize. USB 2 is 100 times faster and so on. There is no speed advantage for USB soundcards because they are basically much faster than the speed of sound

My other idea is that all of my voice files, including commands, were transferred, and the total size is 1.2 gigabytes. Would it be more efficient for me to simply create a new user and then experiment with and import custom words and commands to cut down on the amount of space I use?
