I have been using the (old) SSDKeeper product for years. It made a *noticeable* different in the performance of my machines when I installed it. It caches read/operations in memory to provide your CPU with a faster disk IO service. I think it comes in 1-4 license packs or something.

I filled out a survey six months ago or something and spoke my mind to them about their bad marketing move by making the price too high for home users. I encouraged them to make it easy for people to buy it and upgrade it periodically.

So, I received an email today - they have a $59/year deal ($40 off) on of some kind. And that price is down a LOT from the hundreds of dollars a year. Be sure that it won't die after the first year if you don't renew!

Anyhow, it's a great product. If you want to give your machine a cheap boost in performance, this is the way to do it. (If it doesn't expire in one year.)

My email said: To receive your special $59 per year per PC price use this code at checkout: SAVE40

I see they are still saying "per PC" in the fine print (sigh). They could get almost *everyone* in PC-land to run their tool if they would just drop the price. Oh well.

In our opinion, SSDKeeper does nothing that Windows 10/11 doesn't already do. It's in Microsoft's best interest to include these types of amenities, like Defender which is pretty much as good as any paid antivirus utility. Most third-party utilities simply duplicate existing Windows functionality and in some cases, are risky. The only housekeeping utility we now recommend is Malwarebytes

Well, I hear your point of view. But I could *feel* the faster speed boost after installing SSDKeeper, even on my latest machines. There's nothing like it, IMHO. I would recommend it to anyone who has the money.

They sent me an email when I told them their pricing was still too high compared to other utilities. She said they had a 3-pc for $99 price point.

I also understand that your recommendations as a company have different criteria, too. :-)

Of course, your mileage may vary.

I just installed the SoftPerfect RAM disk, configured with 30GB of RAM (not using it all, obviously). I also created a Temp folder on it and redirected the Windows TMP= and TEMP= environment variables to the RAM drive. Wow. I could feel the difference in almost everything. Dragon loads super fast for me, in about 15 seconds. Outlook, Visual Studio, the Brave browser (excellent! and private too), -- I could feel the speed difference in all of them.

I measured the disk read/write speeds, and the RAM is 2x faster (10,000 mb/sec) than my super fast SSDs (4 or 5MB/sec) on sequential reads (cached by the OS and by SSDKeeper) and writes (cached and optimized by SSDKeeper) and 3x faster on random reads and writes.

Keep in mind that I am comparing the RAM disk (direct) to the read/write optimized cached service provided by SSDKeeper, which already sped everything up by 2x or 3x compared to a raw SSD. (I just saw that SSDKeeper saved me 4.5 DAYS of I/O time since January and 1.2 BILLION fragmented writes to the SSDs). So the Ramdisk is probably 6 or 10 times faster than a raw SSD.

The Softperfect Ramdisk is $29 USD (probably per person, usable on multiple machines. I will soon find out within 30 days... :-)) Ed has used the open-source/freeware ImDisk RAM disk for many years and is happy with it. I have not tried it.

If you're looking for a cheap upgrade to speed up your computer, this is it!

Good to know about this Kevin. Very unlikely I'll see use of it in my environment in the foreseeable future. But just nice to know this "RAM Drive" function is getting more mainstream. Thanks for sharing.

I've been using RAM Disk for many years, mostly for my temporary Internet files.

The program works very well and it's extremely stable.

This is the last freeware version:

Download SoftPerfect RAM Disk - MajorGeeks

However, if you like the program it's always good to support the developer.

Hi Rob, Dang! I already purchased the paid version (4.3.3 or so). I don't mind supporting the developers, and presumably it has one or two new features. I bought the home license and it is working fine. I never made any special settings in the Brave browser for temporary files for Internet files (I couldn't find such a setting). But hopefully the software is smart enough to use the standard TMP or TEMP environment variables.

Create a drive A: with RAMDrive. I made it 250 MB (FAT 32) to not consume too much of my current RAM.

Right click the Brave shortcut on your desktop and change the Target into this symbolic link:

"C:\Program Files\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\Application\brave.exe" --disk-cache-dir="A:\Browser Cache"

Start Brave only with this shortcut and for instance play a YouTube video. Now you should see the cache arriving on drive A:
