I just got my first desktop microphone, "speechwhere table Mike". During the day when I come back and forth to the computer should I be putting Dragon to sleep and leave the microphone power on? This seems the most convenient way to go during the day. At the end of the day should I be turning the power to the Mike off or just shut down the mike on Dragon? Or should I do both at the end of the day?

Thanks

If you know anything about our company you know we take pride in reaching new levels of stupidity and laziness. The Big Haired Lady did, after all, name the company KnowBrainer.

Oddly enough, SpeechWare actually took our design advice which is equivalent to taking wooden nickels. Originally, you had to turn the SpeechWare microphone on before turning the Dragon microphone on. This is no problem in Europe but a major problem in North America. 1 of our implementations was the ability to leave SpeechWare microphones on forever.

We recommend leaving all microphones on forever. However, we do not recommend leaving Dragon in the Asleep state unless it is necessary. We recommend turning the Dragon microphone completely off and on

And at least some people (like me) would recommend exiting Dragon at the end of day and rebooting it when you need it. For what my experience is worth, Dragon doesn't do well on my machines if I leave it running for days with the microphone off.

Thanks for your input. I am finding that I get up in the morning that the microphone on Dragon has turned on, apparently by itself. I think what to do now is leave the external microphone on all the time and shut the Dragon app every night.

Our best guess is that you are hibernating your computer while the Dragon microphone is in the Asleep state. We recommend against using this setting because it's too easy for Dragon to interpret environmental noise as the Dragon wake up command. We recommend opening your desktop KnowBrainer - Tools/Dragon Installs/Dragon_Manual folder and reviewing the IMPORTANT Setting Recommendations (page 16) chapter. We only recommend the Asleep state to those with physical disabilities.

Note that you also have 2 KnowBrainer 2022 commands that are specifically designed to prevent you from leaving the Dragon microphone in the Asleep state. If you want to put your computer in Windows sleep mode or hibernation mode say Sleep Windows or Hibernate Windows, which will 1st turn the Dragon microphone completely off and then sleep or hibernate (deep sleep) Windows. If you want to shut down your computer, without saving your Dragon profile, open documents and countless other applications, say Shutdown Windows (requires a verbal or physical acknowledgment). We use both of these commands every day, while leaving dozens of other applications open, without issue. We have only managed to corrupt one user profile in 25 years, which only required switching to the backup user.

If you wish to save your user profile before shutting down Windows, say Save User
