My husband has began using a Bluetooth microphone for use with Dragon. Frequently, when dictating, the quality becomes really bad and then when we check the microphone, his profile has switched to using the inbuilt laptop's soundcard as dication device. Maybe because the connection with the Bluetooth device was lost?

There does not seem to be a way to remove the inbuilt soundcard as a potential microphone for his profile. It seems to me that it should be possible to remove that soundcard as an option, so that Dragon will give a warning when it has lost contact with the Bluetooth microphone - and not just plod on with the wrong mike. 

Does anyone have a trick for this?

(we Created a new Profile, selecting the Bluetooth microphone as dictation Device. The inbuilt Soundcard was added automatically by Dragon.)

Since Dragon usually doesn't change microphones on its own, I suspect the bluetooth mike is the real source of your problems.

Most bluetooth devices are notorious for losing connection/pairing unexpectedly, at which point Dragon will see the currently used microphone disappearing from the machine suddenly (and probably use a fallback mechanism to use the built-in sound card).

If you remove the audio source for your built-in sound card, this fallback will probably fail and you won't be able to dictate at all, but I'm pretty sure it won't fix the problems with your bluetooth device.

If you want reliable results, my experience is to keep away from bluetooth microphones/headsets as far as you can.
