Person with ALS wears a ventilation mask.

Without mask: recognition accuracy is 90%

With mask: 0% recognition

He uses a transdermal mic for amplification through an external speaker. This set up gives ~50% reccognition accuracy.

Can any recommend a transdermal microphone for speech recognition - to be used as direct input to computer?

We ran several tests, including tactical microphone tests, in Dragon. All of our tests were dismal failures. We were unable to find an acceptable transdermal microphone solution.

Hi!

Lunis, have you by chance tried other microphones with alternative technology to capture speech? A bone conduction mike, for example?

Many years ago a colleague of mine tried an in-ear bone conduction headset and the perceived quality was excellent, but at that time the headset was very expensive (~5000€ or so).

After all those years I expect this technology to have become a lot cheaper, but without a real need for myself I lost it out of sight.

Perhaps this could be an alternative solution for the OP...

hth,

mav

We've only tried one cheek bone conduction headset, around 2006 but didn't have much luck.
