We use EDIST as our distributor and they have not yet responded to our question, which went out about a week ago, so we are guessing they have no information yet. ------------------------- Change "No" to "Know" w/KnowBrainer 2022 |

Okay, thanks. I assume the two new Philips Air microphones are now available. Also, I could not find the detailed Philips pictorial manual quoted above. I would be interested in that.

You will find the Philips SpeechMike Premium Air SMP4000 and SMP4010 models at the top of this thread. We made these models available for purchase on 12-28-17. Note that you additionally receive a download to the Philips latest PDCC utility and a PDF copy of our SpeechMike Premium Air user guide, with your order. Our SpeechMike Premium Air guide is proprietary so we don't make it publicly available to prevent competitors from copying our work. This particular manual was co-authored with Larry Allen (an awesome Dragon/Philips reseller and support source). We cannot make this manual publicly available but if you check the e-mail address you used to join this forum, you'll find a download to the latest PDCC and a PDF copy of our new guide. ------------------------- Change "No" to "Know" w/KnowBrainer 2022 |

Received my unit yesterday (thanks Lunis for the fast shipping!). I hooked it up today while at work. I absolutely love it. I haven't had a single issue with connectivity. The microphone communicates with the base on 2.4 GHz spectrum, and my work WiFi is 2.4 GHz. The two (plus a Bluetooth mouse) have not had a single issue. There is no lag problem like I had feared. Dictations appear on Dragon MPE 2.3 just as fast as a wired microphone (previously used a SMP3700).
Originally I thought it wouldn't last a 10-hour shift in the ER, but I misread the stats. Seems like you get about 24 hours of dictation time and 100 hours of standby time. The base comes with a separate USB cable for power supply to chart the microphone. I'm not sure if a standard USB port connected to the cradle without the power adapter is enough to charge the device or not. I had some hesitation about purchasing this, but ultimately glad I did. |

We removed our AC adapter option because Sennheiser is now including their own. This was our mistake and we deleted our previous post which was inaccurate. Our apologies for this oversight. You do not need the AC adapter because Sennheiser is not only including one, they are additionally including adapters that will let you charge the SpeechMike Premium Air models in all countries. We forgot that Sennheiser even supported all countries in their previous SpeechMike Air (unpopular predecessor). ------------------------- Change "No" to "Know" w/KnowBrainer 2022 |

Just want to share my opinion on the Philips SpeechMike Premium Air SMP4000.
I really appreciate the wireless convenience, programmable buttons, ergonomics, and accuracy. I eagerly await the availability of the extra USB cradles to add to each of the docking stations in each of my exam rooms to boost my workflow efficiency. Absolutely fantastic!! Any further word on the ACC4000 additional cradles?

We preordered the ACC 4000 cradles but have not yet received an ETA. We told Philips this would be a popular item, long before its release but apparently Philips didn't take our marketing recommendation too seriously ------------------------- Change "No" to "Know" w/KnowBrainer 2022 |

Does the cradle have to be physically connected to the computer you are dictating to after initial setup? I use both stationary PCs and laptops. If I have to connect the cradle to the laptop and carry that around with the laptop, that would negate the benefit over a corded microphone.

We suspect that Philips wrestled with this decision because there are advantages and disadvantages to the current mythology. The advantage, assuming you have 2 additional cradles (which we have been waiting on for several weeks) is that you can connect several Bluetooth cradles to several computers. All you need is one SMP 4000/4010 microphone. When you want to connect to another computer, simply take the microphone and drop it into the cradle. It only takes a second to pair. The disadvantage is that there is no Bluetooth dongle. We suspect that Philips thought it would be a nightmare to pair to multiple Bluetooth dongle's but at the same time, attempting to use the current cradle, which is your only option, on a tablet computer would simply be impractical. If you're going to use a tablet computer or need to use your notebook computer in multiple addresses, it might be best to go with the Philips like the SMP3700. To verify your question… YES the cradle will need to be connected to your computer and may not be practical in all situations. ------------------------- Change "No" to "Know" w/KnowBrainer 2022 |

I suppose you could still have a cradle in each exam room and just plug/unplug the cradles from the laptop as you moved from room to room vs carrying the laptop around with a corded mic attached to it.

That's true but you not only would have to turn the Dragon microphone off, before unplugging, you might even have to reopen your user profile, when going to the next room but yes, it would be doable. ------------------------- Change "No" to "Know" w/KnowBrainer 2022 |

Years ago I bought the original SpeechMike Air Pro (from KnowBrainer). I was pretty happy with it except for the short battery life. The rechargeable battery got more and more tired and eventually failed. I tried to use eneloops in it but could not get the mike to talk to the Philips control software, even though windows and DNS recognized it as a dumb microphone. Philips batteries are pretty expensive -- somewhere between $23 and $35 per pair. What I discovered today, out of desperation, was that exposing about 1 cm of the metal on the negative end of the eneloop battery allowed contact with a little spring loaded switch in the Air Pro. When I did that, the eneloop battery magically was able to work perfectly with the Philips control software. Maybe the new Air Pro has the same device to only allow Philips branded batteries to work with their microphone. An alternative to the multiple cradles may be to just have available several pairs of precharged eneloop or other branded batteries with insulation removed from the negative ends. |

The new Philips SpeechMike Premium Air microphone does not have a user-replaceable batteries. Instead it is using a Lithium Ion battery with a supposed very long life. There are no batteries for a user to replace.

One of my doctors has been using a SpeechMike Premium Air that is no longer charging. It can only be used in the charging cradle. I see that the batteries are not user replaceable and when I contacted Phillips they referred me to my vendor. This unit was purchased prior to me joining the company and there are no records of where it was purchased. The doctor in question joined the company just under four years ago and the unit was purchased specifically for him, so it couldn't be more than four years old. Does anyone know of a vendor that can replace these batteries? thanks, Darrell ------------------------- Darrell S. Poteet |

I noticed firmware 4.33 is now available. I believe the firmware I was running previously was 4.30, but I do not have my SMP4000 right now since I sent it in for exchange (frequent vibrations despite good wifi connection).
The release notes are below. The firmware is available at SpeechMike.com. V4.33 technical release 2018-01-30 - Fixed a problem which could cause the first recording containing only loud noise after powering up the docking station - Fixed the case of a permanently buzzing mobile device when ending a recording during a bad connection - Updating the device settings with PDCC could cause a permanently muted microphone, when a microphone event was assigned to a button in browser mode, even when the browser mode was not active. This behaviour has been fixed in this version. - Fixed a playback distortion problem, when playback was continuously running for more than 30 minutes - SMPA was not recognized on a Macbook after returning out of sleep mode. Fixed in this version |

Received my SMP4000 replacement microphone and base today. The vibration happens less often, but still happens occasionally (mainly when I first start dictating).
One thing that happened today is that after I left the microphone unattended on my desk for a prolonged period of time (about an hour) while seeing patients, I came back and it had a yellow light for the battery for both the microphone and base. I put it back on the base and it remained. 10 minutes later, I took it out of the base, the light turned green, but the microphone wasn't recognized by Dragon. I unplugged the base and plugged it back in. Set the microphone in the cradle again. It was immediately recognized, and the battery lights were green. I've upgraded to firmware 4.33. |

Lunis, that error only happened once. Not sure what caused it. I've used it pretty extensively at work and it seems to be working perfectly 99% of the time. The 5V power adapter/cable is not required. It will charge (slowly) by just plugging it into the USB data port alone. It will charge the microphone and keeps it charged throughout my shifts. I don't even put it in the cradle half the time. I leave it sitting in front of my laptop 50% of my shift. |

I have used 4 different Philips SpeechMike products through the years. The last of which was the SpeechMike Air. The solution I look for but have still not found was illustrated in the above post by NaturalArt.
I have 2 exam rooms and want to travel seamlessly between the rooms and dictate. We used to attach a dongle to the laptop with the Air until it the Air broke down. With the SMPAir it seems that there is limited portability in multiple rooms. I have an MA with me and she can put the prompt in the correct box for my dictation as she is inputting some patient information but I don't want her wandering around from room to room with a dock hanging off of her laptop. This was noted to be impractical. Therefore... Can I leave my docking station at a stationary computer at my desk in another room and just have the MA put the prompt into the correct box for dictating and follow along to make sure the dictation is populating? I guess the answer may lie in the extent of the range of handpiece from the dock. Any thoughts on this or other solutions to the workflow issue that I am experiencing? Thanks! |

Could this mike also be used with skype ? ------------------------- plb46500 |

VoIP applications like Skype work better when you can eliminate the latency (echo effect). That's why you will see UC (unified medications) on a number of microphones. This microphone is not specifically UC rated but it will probably work. We just can't guarantee it. ------------------------- Change "No" to "Know" w/KnowBrainer 2022 |

I just received my Speechmike Air 4000, it take some getting used to, but have to say this is one excellent microphone, and the noise canceling is notably better than Sennheiser MB Pro-1 devices.
I found the set up, and the software, quite easy work with, for some reason things did not work until I performed an update, after which everything seemed to work fine. I think some clinicians/people might find the number of choices somewhat daunting, and avoid the microphone for this reason alone. However functionality is quite incredible. I had recently had access to the Nuance Powermike III, which drove my decision to purchase this, and I find this to be definitely a better choice for me, I'm not sure if it is more accurate or not, because I use it in a different environment and the Powermike was unable to fill that role due to the cord, I had to have a cordless device. ------------------------- mwarddoc |

Under the circumstances, Philips (888-381-0749) & (888) 744-5477 should not be abandoning you in the middle of the woods, with nothing more than a pocketknife. We recommend calling them back and explaining your situation. Your microphone is out of warranty but it should be manufacturer serviceable. Rechargeable batteries frequently expire in 3+ years.

Welcome (See Mission Statement)
It would be easy in North America but in Saudi Arabia, you will probably need to contact a local reseller or the closest Phillips headquarters, which is probably in the Netherlands.
