What's the value of the footpedal for a SpeechWare tablemike? Rudiger has said that he manually shuts off his mike to keep DNS from getting unintended input. He thinks this is important to maintaining accuracy.

I would think that the foot pedal of the tablemike can be used to switch off the mike. Is this correct?

Are there other uses of the foot pedal that are valuable?

Is the foot pedal a good value? In other words, is the foot pedal a good reason to buy the 6 in One or 9 in One instead of the 3 in One?

Only you can answer that question but we can give you a little background information to work with. In order to use the foot pedal, you will minimally need, as you pointed out, the 6-in-1 or 9-in-1. The 6-in-1 adds a foot pedal jack, USB port and an internal speaker for VoIP use. The 9-in-1 adds a 2nd USB port, SD card reader and a telescoping boom microphone.

The foot pedal has several functions, depending on how you adjust the three-way switch on the bottom of the
6-in-1 or 9-in-1 base. Some end users use the foot pedal is a momentary switch. In this configuration, when you hold down the foot pedal, the microphone is on and when you lift up your foot, the microphone is toggled off. Other end users use the foot pedal as a standard on off button. This can be a little quicker than looking for a hotkey or using your mouse to turn off the Dragon microphone. One example would be an attorney discussing a case with the client. To prevent the clients voice from coming across the microphone, he might want an efficient way of toggling the microphone on and off while concealing the movement, which could distract his client. However, it should also be noted that this functionality also exists within NaturallySpeaking via the hotkeys menu. Unfortunately, only you would know what the foot pedal would be a viable option for you are not but rest assured that you will at least have a 30 day customer satisfaction guarantee.

Hi Lunis,

Reading your explanation above and testing some configurations myself I notice that the foot switch actually does not turn off the Dragon Microphone, it just turns of the SpeechWare table mike.

One of our customers is using Dragon Medical Practice edition and would like to use a foot switch. He already has the 9-in-1.
He now uses the switch on the microphone stand to switch off the microphone but Dragon is still listening and he notices that the system is slowing down performance of the pc at that moment.

So would like to have a foot switch that actually turns off Dragon listening to the mic.

Can you maybe do this with optional Octopus software from SpeechWare?

Do you have any experience with a Philips ACC2320 series foot switch to do the trick?
As this switch is more robust we would prefer to use this model switch.

Kind regards

We can't help you with a USB foot pedal but you can Google for that. When you combine it with the Octopus it should work.

The Philips foot switch should work as long as you can assign 1 of your keyboard buttons to it. We have never tested it. Actually, probably any USB foot pedal should work because they would all need to be keyboard assignable.

Hi Lunis,

Thanks for the feedback.

I am struggling with the philips control center software to get it to work. Also asked Philips for some help. It does not seem to work as expected. I keep you informed.

Have you never had the question to control the dragon microphone with a foot switch? And if so what would your solution be?

kind regards
dennis

A number of our attorneys and some of our physicians are combining the SpeechWare Footpedal with the SpeechWare 6-in-1 and 9-in-1 TableMike's because they are easily purposed for this use.

Thank you for your interest in our foot pedal to be used as a hardware microphone switch for TableMikes 6-in-1 and 9-in-1...

Do you know that you could also use any USB foot pedal of your choice that you may already own and configure it to support any Dragon functionality, including microphone ON and OFF, with our unique Octopus USB Controller utility?

Please download it and give it a try for the 5 free working sessions we do offer before activation. You will be truly amazed about its possibilities not only for foot pedal control of the Dragon microphone icon, but also for its support of any other USB device of your choice or need (keypad, hand-held microphone, etc.!
