A flaw in the Shokz design that I have not seen mentioned is the fact that it does not fit some women and others with small heads. Bone conduction hearing depends on close contact of the device’s transmitters with the bony mastoid process behind the ear. In the women who have fitted a Shokz OC in my presence, this has not worked — the relevant parts of the Shokz headset sit 0.5-1 cm away from that bony prominence.
A related issue is that the wire band around the back of the head then projects further rearwards, making it difficult to rest the head against anything. Unless I’m missing something here, I can't see any way this can be adjusted. Thus people with small heads can use the Shokz for dictation, but may not hear clearly. ------------------------- DaveR |

I looked for reviews of this microphone when I first heard about it. I am female, and I ruled it out after seeing that men reviewed it glowingly, whereas women said that it was too big and wished that the company made a smaller model.

The Shokz OpenComm UC design should be able to accommodate nearly any head size because of the universal design. For example, the Big Haired Lady has a small head. The headband simply extends further behind her head. The Bone Conduction pads still rest in the right place. We wonder if the tester may have simply decided that the headband should be snug against the back of her head. Unfortunately, many reviews are posted by unqualified end-users.
Another possible issue could be hearing aids.
We can't test this but note that many resellers, including us, include a 30 day customer satisfaction moneyback guarantee on everything we sell; even software so there is no real risk ------------------------- Change "No" to "Know" w/KnowBrainer 2022 |
