Hello everyone! I'm currently running DPI 15.61 on an Intel Mac under Parallels and Windows 10, and I plan to purchase Dragon Professional 16 in the expectation that I'll probably move to an M1/M2 machine and Windows 11 in the near future. In the short term, though, if I decide that 15.6 works better on my current, out-of-date rig, how easy would it be to roll back to 15.61? Trying to head off any snafus! :-) Oh, and since I really only plan to install 16 on my existing machine and eventually a new laptop, do you think it would still be worth getting the VLA version? Thanks! ------------------------- DPI 16/Windows 11/Parallels Desktop 18 on a MacBook Air M2 (24GB RAM) |

I am in a similar situation, and will be trying out Dragon 16 soon. I'm planning to make a disk image before I upgrade Dragon. If it doesn't work out, then I'll be able to go back to Dragon 15.61 by restoring my computer to the disk image. It's a good backup practice anyway, although I admit it takes a bit of figuring out. I use Macrium Reflect 8, an external hard drive, and a USB stick:
https://www.howtogeek.com/7363/macrium-reflect-is-a-free-and-easy-to-use-backup-utility/
There are other disk imaging options here:

It does take a few hours out of my day. And Dropbox gets very busy after restoring a disk image, because it can tell that the Dropbox folder is not up-to-date. If I don't want all that network activity, then I can copy the Dropbox folder to an external drive before restoring the disk image, and then temporarily pause Dropbox syncing after the restore while I copy the folder back. Either way works fine.
Personally I wish I was eligible for a VLA version because sometimes troubleshooting involves a lot of uninstalling and reinstalling. One of the other active threads on the forum right now is doing that. I've had good luck calling Dragon customer service to ask for more activations in the past, but I don't know if that good luck will continue, and anyway it's a hassle.
I hope someone will be able to tell us if there is another way to roll back from version 16 to 15. |

Ah, thanks for this, missink! Exactly what I was looking for, and super helpful (I use DropBox as well, so thanks for that tip!).
EDIT: Oh, wait--I just re-read Lunis' review of Dragon 16, and it mentions that Dragon Professional/Legal 16 VLA is priced the same as Dragon Professional/Legal 16. In the KnowBrainer store, however, the prices are different--$349 for the perpetual license, $379 for the VLA. Hey, there are links to remover tools in this thread. They sound a lot easier than disk imaging. https://knowbrainer.com/forums/messageview.cfm?catid=4&threadid=37301 |

Ah, thanks-i've used those remover tools in the past, but had completely forgotten about them! ------------------------- DPI 16/Windows 11/Parallels Desktop 18 on a MacBook Air M2 (24GB RAM) |

Note: Unless you are using a VLA version of Dragon, do not run Dragon 16 Cleaner (removes any version or edition of Dragon) until you uninstall DP 16 because if you don't, you will lose 1 of your 2 activations. This isn't an issue with DP 16 VLA because the activation works differently. ------------------------- Change "No" to "Know" w/KnowBrainer 2022 |

I don't know about Lunis's offers, but here in Europe, VLA licenses cost the same as those miserly Online Activated Single User versions, and they are freely available to anyone.
As Lindsay and me have pointed out before, do get the VLA from a certified Dragon reseller. Do not buy directly from Nuance or an online retailer/wholeseller as their versions of Dragon are copy protected and need to be activated, with all the hassle that goes with it. Hope that helps, Stephan ------------------------- |

Thanks, Lunis!
Actually, I suppose this thread is moot now, since I'm running Dragon 16 (VLA) and have noticed no degradation at all. In fact, I think that Open Office Writer might even working better now, even under Windows 10. ------------------------- DPI 16/Windows 11/Parallels Desktop 18 on a MacBook Air M2 (24GB RAM) |
