Nuance claims that Dragon 16 works with the 32-bit version of LibreOffice: https://www.nuance.com/products/help/dragon16/dragon-for-pc/enx/dlg-vla/content/CommandandControl/libreoffice_basics.htm I upgraded to Dragon 16 last night, but can't get Select-and-Say to work in LibreOffice. I am using the 32-bit version of LibreOffice, 7.4.6.2 (x86). I suspect that I need to make some sort of modification to the nsapps.ini file, but I can't find any documentation of this anywhere. Has anyone gotten Dragon 16 to work with LibreOffice? |

We have confirmed that Dragon 16 doesn't work in LibreOffice Writer 32-bit or 64-bit. ------------------------- Change "No" to "Know" w/KnowBrainer 2022 |

Thanks, Lunis. I appreciate your testing it. Interestingly (and disappointingly), even Apache Open Office 4.1.6, which worked with earlier versions of Dragon, doesn't seem to work with Dragon 16. Edit: I've been able to get Notepad++, Scite, and Jarte to work with Dragon 16, by the same techniques that worked in 15. |

Thanks, Lindsay! Two questions. First, are you using version 4.1.6 of OpenOffice or some other version? Second, is there anything in your nsapps.ini file specific to OpenOffice? (I have a set of entries under "[SOFFICE]", but they seem only to be about sample commands. I have a similar set of entries for [SALFRAME], which is the window class name for LibreOffice Writer.) I don't get the green indicator light for either OpenOffice or LibreOffice. |

4.1.13. The developers had to wait for the latest API from Apache before implementing full select and say so I would try the latest version. I don't have anything extra in my nsapps.ini for OpenOffice, the only stuff I have extra is for Jarte which is what me and the developer of Jarte came up with a long time ago at the behest of George Spoudason. ------------------------- |

Disappointingly, 4.1.13 does not work for me. No green light. I see that 4.1.14 is out, so maybe I will try that.
Very strange that works for you and not for me. |

I'm not using perpetual or VLA, just regular old Dragon Professional 16. 16.00.200.121

Yes, it did.

So that is definitely perpetual. I have the following in my nsapps.ini

Yes, I have the same entries, plus this, which is relevant to LibreOffice.

We can also verify full DP 16 & DP 16 VLA compatibility with OpenOffice Writer. As Lindsay noted, Nuance now refers to DP 16 as perpetual. We refer to it as a local installation but "perpetual" gives the expression more zing

Maybe "perpetual" also stands or "perpetually the same", as in "no updates". ------------------------- The New Game in Town: DragonConnect |

Thanks, Lindsay and Lunis,
Actually, I did not find DP 16 "perpetual" to be compatible with OpenOffice, no matter what I tried. No Select-and-Say and no green indicator light. I did a repair of Dragon, I tried OpenOffice 4.1.13 and 4.1.14 (the latter both as a download from openoffice.org and as an app from the Microsoft Store). No satisfaction. I uninstalled the perpetual version and installed the VLA version and it now works with OpenOffice. I have no idea why. Still no go with LibreOffice, surprisingly. |

Spoke too soon. Select-and-Say has now disappeared in OpenOffice 4.1.14. Still using Dragon 16 VLA, but the green indicator is gone. Can't imagine what is causing this. Very odd. |

Maybe the add-in for OpenOffice (dgnoowriter.dll) has been ejected. I would try running a repair of Dragon, or even reinstall. ------------------------- The New Game in Town: DragonConnect |

Thank you, Lindsay. That's very helpful. I was thinking instead that it might have something to do with the mystery in Gravity's Rainbow having to do with the distribution of the German rockets in London and Tyrone Slothrop's romantic activities there. Once I finish rereading Gravity's Rainbow, I will turn to Harry Potter. Matt

However, just as a test try creating a new user profile without adding all your vocabulary and commands. ------------------------- |

However, just as a test try creating a new user profile without adding all your vocabulary and commands. Unfortunately, creating a new user profile doesn't solve the problem. Nor does reinstalling Dragon or OpenOffice. I guess it will have to remain a mystery, at least for the foreseeable future. |

Hi Matt,
Did you ever manage to resolve this? I just installed Dragon 16, and while I have not used OpenOffice much with it yet, it was the first thing I tested--and it seemed to work fine. Yes, I got Dragon 16 working with Apache OpenOffice Writer. Turned out that a third party utility was causing the problem, for reasons that are unclear. LibreOffice Writer still doesn't work with Dragon 16, however.

Glad to hear you got it to work! Maybe one of these days they'll get LibreOffice to work with it too...

I hope it can be resolved. I had some discussions with a technical person working on LibreOffice, and he was sympathetic, but didn't really feel like he had enough information to make any progress on this. He said it was possible that Dragon is supposed to use the same dll with LibreOffice Writer as it does with OpenOffice Writer (dgnoowriter.dll), but he just didn't know. |
