I'm still with version 15.30 which generally works well but I must upgrade to the latest version before too long    I'm using Windows 10.  I'm thinking of moving from Office 2010 to either Office 2019 perpetual or MS 365 licence, but I seem to recall reading here some time ago about a conflict between Dragon and either or both of these.  Was that / is this still the case?  Thanks

While either MS Office will work, our personal preference would be Microsoft 365. The only major problem with Dragon 15.3 is a Jumping Cursor problem in Microsoft Word and Outlook. Ver. 15.61 fixes that problem but introduces a new issue which we call Jumping Page. We have come up with a workaround for this issue. We recommend the following steps:

1. Go to DragonBar

2. Click Tools

3. Click Options

4. Click Commands tab

5. More Commands button

6. Remove the checkmark from Enable Natural Language Commands

You'll find more recommendations in our KnowBrainer Dragon Installation/Training Guide, which includes pictorial details on the installation process, a list of Dragon commands organized by category and pictorial details on fixing 29 other sandtraps.

Hello Lunis. I haven't been on this forum for a while but it's great to see that you are still being wonderfully supportive and informative. I'm pleased that despite getting on in years my memory still appears to be vaguely working as I did recall that there was a conflict of some sort.

Why is your personal preference for 365? Is it because it is constantly updated and supported or does it have anything to do with the way it relates to Dragon compared with Office 2019?

I will upgrade to version 15.61. Thank you very much for the workaround to get over the Jumping Page issue. I do have your Installation & Training guide for 15.30. Is there anything added relative to 15.61?

Microsoft 365 business is periodically updated, relatively low-priced and best of all, we can share it with 9 other people

Jeremy: Given that you are using Office 2010, I suspect that you, like me, keep your software for a long time. I chose to upgrade from Office 2010 to Office 2019 a couple of years ago for that reason: it is far cheaper to buy the perpetual version if you are going to keep it for several years or more. Also, Microsoft has a tendency to change features in 365 that make them poorly compatible or noncompatible with Dragon (Modern Comments in Word is the prime example, but you will only run into them if you edit with Dragon).

Thanks for the useful information Scribe. Out of curiosity did you find there were significant differences in usage going from Office 2010 to 2019?

Jeremy: Office 2010 and Office 2019 function similarly. There were a few changes in 2019 that I disliked. The "Zoom to" function in Word, which worked flawlessly in Word 2010, most often fails in 2019. Also in 2019, Open File brings up a list of recent files that is not innately voice accessible. But what I dislike most is that closing files is more time-consuming. I used to be able to say Alt F4 and the document I was working on in Word would close immediately. Now, half the time, Dragon thinks I've closed the file inadvertently and opens it again for me or tries to do so. That wastes time.

PowerPoint seems about the same, although a few features have been moved on the menus. I use Excel so infrequently that I'm not sure if there were any changes in it.

The biggest change for me after my upgrade was the long lags in switching between programs and Word. For example, if I check Slack, I will often have a sixty-second lag before Word will function again. However, this was the result of switching from Dragon 11.5 to Dragon 15.61, rather than an innate Office problem.

If you are happy with Office 10, I don't see any particular benefit to upgrading.

Scribe: thank you so much for the useful information. It seems that you are much more of a 'power user' than I am because I primarily use Dragon to dictate text but not to navigate my way around. It's probably laziness on my behalf but I tend to find it easier to use keystrokes or the mouse. However, your comments are helpful and have been noted.

After quite a lot of deliberation I have purchased an Office 365 subscription license for £60 per annum compared with £249 for the perpetual licence. I'm coming up to 81 years of age and although I hope to have a lot of years left, one never knows, so if I'm not so lucky the annual licence will possibly be a better deal for me The subscription license will also give me support and updates as time goes by.

I would have happily stayed with Office 2010 but my current email domain provider is stopping soon and I needed to find another one. I decided to go to Outlook but it was most reluctant to work with Office 2010 which is why I went to Office 365.

Thanks again for your help.

Sorry to hear about the Outlook issue. I was using Outlook smoothly with Office 2010, but possibly the version available now isn't backwards compatible. I wish you many years of enjoying Office 365. My father is ninety-four and still doing a bit of work, so 81 seems young to me.
