I have been encountering the strangest issue, intermittently, for the past year and 1/2 and wondering if anyone else has run into something similar.

Essentially, on rare occasions (I would say every few days), all of my USB devices abruptly drop and then reconnect – including my USB microphone. The common thread is that this only happens immediately after using Dragon to close an active Microsoft Teams call. Doesn't happen when doing anything else with Dragon. It also doesn't happen when closing the call in another way. As far as I can tell, it's exclusive to that particular intersection.

The way I know that it happens is that Dragon and SpeechStart+ both stop working, because they have effectively lost their connections to my audio device. Exactly the same behavior you would get if you just unplugged your microphone physically while using those programs. And I know it's more than just the microphone, because I also get a message from my Logitech utility about a new camera being detected. When it happens, I have to have someone physically help me exit both of those apps and manually restart them, at which point they work normally.

It's super bizarre.

Our 1st thought was a motherboard issue losing connections with the USB ports but since it only happens in Teams, you might consider forcing your USB ports to stay hot all the time. Click the Quick Tips button at the top of this page and search for “Prevent Windows from losing USB connections”

It sounds like Teams issues a reset operation to the audio devices and USB ports. Very strange. If the USB lock that Lunis describes doesn't work, I don't know what would. That USB 'hot' fix keeps the power connected to your usb ports, but has nothing to do with the software part of the USB ports. In desperation, you might switch your devices and USB ports around to different USB ports, buy one of those 10-port USB strip with indicator lights and per-port switches (I bought two because I like them so much), and then watch the power lights when exiting teams. Maybe you could also vary your devices between motherboard USB ports (always powered, as Lunis says) and the USB strips that I mention. Good luck!
