Dragon immediately crashes if I open Adobe Acrobat and attempt to control the program with Dragon speech commands. The error message that appears says only "at line 1 in script MyCommands" (see attached screenshot). I think this problem began right after I upgraded from Windows 10 to Windows 11.

I've updated Dragon, Windows, and my laptop's firmware to the latest versions available, but none of this helped.

Can anyone suggest a fix? Any advice would be appreciated!

I haven't found Adobe products to be particularly Dragon friendly. I occasionally try to interact with Adobe Reader by voice, but I don't have much success.

Dragon is fully, or almost fully, compatible with surprisingly few applications:

Dragon works nicely with Word and Outlook, but less so with Excel and PowerPoint. However, if a Word document is too long or too complex, Dragon performance suffers. Dragon is supposed to be compatible with WordPerfect, although I haven't tried in years.

Dragon works OK in browsers, but the degree of "OK-ness" depends on which browser you're using, and the page you're viewing.

Under Windows 10, Dragon works nicely in Notepad, WordPad, and similar simple text editors. I'm not sure that's true when running Windows 11.

You did not attach or insert your picture. See How to Attach Pictures

If you only require Adobe for basic use and don't need digital signatures etc. you might consider doing your work in Microsoft Word which also gives you Select-&-Say and full control. When you finish, save your document as a PDF. You might want to save your original Word document for future editing. This is how we handle Excel spreadsheets to save PDF receipts for our customers

Or you can create a command to add your digital signature to Microsoft Word.

You might want to consider switching to Foxit Editor 12. Current price is $79 for annual subscription, or it is possible to purchase the program and also to pay if you want a small annual fee to receive all upgrades. I have no trouble controlling the program with DPI scripts. The program has a very generous assortment of hotkeys and also has a ribbon that provides for control of items when several keys are pressed consecutively. It's very easy to dictate within a sticky note that I generate with a single command, but of course the sticky note does not provide DPI with information about its contents. If I want to do editing within a given sticky note I simply use one of the transfer boxes from Speech Productivity. It's also quite possible to add additional text and to edit existing text provided the latter has gone through OCR so that you are dealing with text rather than just a photograph of text. The only thing I don't like about the program is that when I want to convert a webpage into a PDF by printing via the Foxit PDF generator, the text does not look as good in the PDF as it does when I simply print to PDF through the Microsoft conversion process. Since the latter process is available whenever I want, the slight weakness of Foxit in converting the webpage into a PDF is of no concern for my purposes.

Because I use a variety of programs, I decided some time ago to help my memory by writing the names of scripts that I use for each. Each program gets a separate PDF file that is named after the program, And each PDF file can be quickly called up with a single command. The names of the various commands that I sometimes use in Foxit are listed below to give you an idea of what can be done by voice. These are only a few of the different types of commands that could be easily Written for Foxit.

Thank you all for the helpful replies! I appreciate it. I found a fix for my problem with Adobe Acrobat. I uninstalled Acrobat, restarted my computer, and then downloaded and installed Adobe Reader (Windows 11 version). I can now open PDF documents and read them without any Dragon problems.

This has allowed me to get back to work. (For much of my work, I use Dragon to dictate into Microsoft Word & Excel, while keeping various PDF documents open for reference. For example, for my year-end tax planning, I'm using Dragon to dictate into Excel, while I have various PDF documents from my bank open for reference. I'm not a heavy user of Acrobat features, but it was really untenable to have Dragon crash whenever I tried to simply open a PDF document and turn the page.)

Once I get through some pressing deadlines, I will try reinstalling Adobe Acrobat. I suspect that if I download and install a clean copy of Acrobat (especially if it's a version updated to handle Windows 11), it will probably work fine. We'll see!
