I hope I have posted in the right place. If not, please forgive. I work in closed captioning and create verbatim transcripts. Anytime I had a crash, I could go and retrieve the recovered .dra file in dragon pad. Recently, the .dra files are no longer in my work folder as before. Can anyone help me to figure this out and how I can have my .dra files showing in my files again. I voice write into word for my transcripts and word has issues acting up and crashing at different times, so I rely on these .dra files in case I need to recover my most latest edits or transcriptions. Any ideas?  I have Dragon version 15.61.200.010

Thank you!

You are definitely in the right place. Please check the following:

1. Say show Dragon options

2. Click the Data tab

3. Make certain there is a number, rather than the word Never under Save recording dictation with document

Hi,

Thank you for responding so quickly. I've actually been in limbo since I found this problem. I cannot work without the .dra files being there. I did what you said; however, see this pic of my dragon layout. There doesn't seem to be an option as you said. Any suggestions?

There has never been a number under the setting mentioned above. As far as I can tell, and given the setting above, the DRA file is only created any time the Word document is saved, along with and next to the Word document, but not if Word crashes. If these are the DRA files you are referring to and not the ones created "in the background" under the user profiles folder.

You've got it right in the screenshot. There are no numbers, just "Always", "Ask me" and "Never" as option. Be sure to choose "Always" or "Ask me".

One more persistent bug is that DRA files only show up in the Windows File Explorer when the document was saved at least twice. After the first save, there will be no visible DRA file - although Dragon still has the audio data saved somewhere: If you re-open the document, there will be sound available for playback.

We recommend to save the document once BEFORE dictation, and then again at the end; if possible, save it every few minutes. At the second save, the DRA file will show up along with the document in Windows Explorer.

Hope that helps, Stephan

Stephan, I'm almost sure you meant to make that "Never" or "Ask me", didn't you.

No I didn't. The original poster explicitly wants the DRA files.

So did I, and although I may not possess all the psychic debugging powers that you have, I still wonder what makes you so sure of it.

I think that's pretty clear. Anyway, let's not bicker about this any more as the OP seems to have given up the thread long ago.
