When working in a document in MS Word, it frequently happens that Dragon stops recognizing words at some point. Everything is going fine till let's say the fifth paragraph, and then when I want to edit a mistake Dragon does not find the word. It will find the same word in an earlier paragraph, but not in the last one. When trying longer strings of text, it is the same. Correcting or selecting makes no difference.

How could I solve this?

Disk space reserved for playback is 5000 MB.

Dragon performance takes a hit when working on long, complex, Word documents. But a five paragraph document shouldn't be a problem.

Dragon can only correct or select text that is visible. Is the last paragraph visible on the screen, or is the word you want to act on, off-screen?

Call me superstitious, but whenever possible, I turn off Word's grammar checker because of an observation, made years ago, that running Word's Grammar checker degrades Dragon performance.

A Dragon setting change that might make a small difference:

"Save Recorded dictation with document:" Set to "Never."

Yes, the paragraph is visible.

I have since turned off spellchecker, and maybe that indeed seem to make a change…

Are you working with documents that have footnotes, endnotes, or in-text citations? In documents with these features, the select function tends not to work toward the end of a page (anywhere from the last quarter to last half of the page, depending on the density of the notes or citations). I have observed this in hundreds of documents.

Yes, this happens in documents with footnotes. Maybe that is indeed what is causing it.

1. Do you still see the green • in the DragonBar after you dictate 5 paragraphs?

2. When Dragon stops dropping your words, you can force dictation with your KnowBrainer 2020 Type <dictation> and Print <Dictation> commands. However, Dragon sometimes stalls on just the 1st word if not recognized. In this situation, the remaining utterance will also be ignored. This is a unique problem to the Dragon 15 speech engine. If this is the problem, you may need to make your 1st word Cap or no-caps <dictation>. For example, we have run into this problem when we attempt to begin our dictation with the word “KnowBrainer”. In this situation we can usually just say Cap <KnowBrainer ect...>.

3. If you're using Dragon's default settings, you will need to open the DragonBar/Options to the Correction tab and add a check mark to “Select” commands search backwards.

4. Unless you are a court reporter or transcriptionist, with 16 Gb of RAM, you should change your DragonBar/Options Disk space reserved for playback (tab) to 0 or 200. Just because you can make this setting 5000 Mb, doesn't mean you should; unless you want to waste space and prematurely wear out your hard drive. If you have 8 Gb of RAM you should change the setting to 200 Mb; unless you are a lawyer or radiologist. In this case, you should go with 300 - 500 Mb. The 100 Mb default setting decision was clearly made by someone who doesn't use Dragon or only dictates a few words at a time. You could easily overrun the 100 Mb buffer setting. In our opinion, 200 Mb should have been the default setting

We suspect a lot of your user profile settings are not ideal. We recommend obtaining a copy of the KnowBrainer Dragon Installation/Training Guide, which includes pictorial details on the installation process, a list of Dragon commands organized by category and pictorial details on fixing 30 sandtraps.

Is the Dragon option "Search backward to find words" option selected? Maybe that will force Dragon to only search backward from the caret location.
