Status report:

I just gave in, and have disabled printable characters by default in most of the eMclient windows. i.e. reviving an AutoHotKey package that I put to sleep when I stopped using Thunderbird.

EMclient doesn't have as many unmodified keyboard shortcuts as Thunderbird, but the ones it has are painful. Particularly in reading messages: I will say something like "DRAGO move message to folder", but it'll get misrecognized as "Bagel ...", and it will bounce randomly around the message list. and of course eMclient doesn't have enough undo to be useful when you get such an error cascade.

BTW, I realized that there are advantages in putting myself into command mode when I'm in such a window. Unfortunately that's WIP, some problems...

Finally, I would say it again: unless you are desperate to use Gmail labels properly, not just as  the IMAP folder kludge, I cannot recommend eMclient. In many ways it is worse for speech recognition than either Outlook or Thunderbird. I guess I'm just rather desperate to get  Gmail labels support, but I also want sorting which Gmail does not provide.
