For the life of me I can't find this. Over and over again I'm told to create a new profile will fix this, but I don't seem to be able to find a step-by-step complete guide to creating a new user profile. Does anybody have a User Profile for Dummies document?

You will find new pictorial details in our KnowBrainer Dragon Installation/Training Guide, which is complementary to our Dragon customers. This guide was upgraded a few weeks ago and the new downloads never expire.

PS: There is also a new complementary KnowBrainer 2017 download

This Ver. 12 video is pretty out of date and doesn't look much like Ver. 15

I see I need to be more specific. The situation I'm facing is that my current user profile appears to be corrupt. I want to establish a new user profile which also includes all the vocabulary training that I've done up to this point in any commands that need to be imported (???). Creating an entirely new profile from scratch is a matter of following the steps. Things like how to export vocabulary, including pronunciation, not just spelling and other little things that Dragon might need. Right now, I can create a new profile and wipe out all the vocabulary work. The profile will work better because it doesn't have the corruption - but it also doesn't have the vocabulary. What I'm looking for is a step-by-step procedure says here's how you export everything and imported to the new profile. For

If you follow these steps, it is possible, with practice, to create an accurate Dragon profile from scratch in five to ten minutes.

0. Have a writing sample
- Prepare a file that contains samples of your actual writing. Start with a few paragraphs, but try to build it to a longer document.
- Ensure spelling, punctuation, grammar, etc. are correct.
- Save as plain text. Note the folder where you save it as you will need to know where the file is located when you create a new profile.

1. Export your custom words
- Start Dragon.
- DragonBar > Vocabulary > Export custom word and phrase list...
- Save the file as a "text file." Pay attention to where you save the file; you will need to know where it is to import the words into your new profile.
- Open the file and review the list of words and phrases. Delete any you no longer need. Save the file and exit.

2. Export your custom commands
- DragonBar > Tools > Command Browser > Mode > Manage
- From the various groups displayed in the drop-down list, choose custom commands to export.
- Manage > Export
- Save as a ".dat" file. Pay attention to where you save the file. You will need to know where it is to import the commands into your new profile.

3. Create and Name the New Profile
- DragonBar > Profile > New User Profile > New
- In the "Enter a name" field, type your name.
- Click "Next."

4. Choose your Region and Accent
- Select your "Region" and "Accent."
- If you grew up in one area but lived for many years elsewhere, your original accent may have changed. If you are unsure of your accent, select "General."

5. Choose a Speech Device
- If the microphone is plugged into a USB port, choose "USB." Otherwise, "Mic-in jack."
- Click "Next," then "Create."

6. Check Microphone
- Read the text in your normal voice.
- You don't have to read the text displayed on the screen. Just speak clearly with normal volume.

7. Continue to follow the prompts
- The creation process only takes a few minutes before you arrive at the "Done" prompt.

8. View the Tutorial (optional)
- If you are new to Dragon or want a refresher, take the tutorial. Or close it.

9. Set Dragon Options
- If you don't like Dragon's default settings, change them now.
- DragonBar > Tools > Options...

10. Let Dragon analyze your writing sample
- Navigate to the folder containing your writing sample, and select it:
- DragonBar > Vocabulary > Learn from specific documents...
- Follow the prompts. Don't train anything.

11. Import your custom words and phrases
- Navigate to the folder containing your word list, and select it:
- DragonBar > Vocabulary > Import a list of words or phrases...
- Follow the prompts, but do not train the words. It takes too long, and the benefits of training are negligible.

12. Import your custom commands
- DragonBar > Tools > Command Browser > Mode > Manage > Import
- Navigate to the folder containing your custom commands, and select the file.
- Follow the prompts, and import the commands into your new profile.

13. Exit Dragon and restart it

Alan,

This works exactly as advertised - thank you so very much.

Interesting quirk, however. If you load Dragon by invoking KnowBrainer, it loads the old user profile - despite the new one having the box checked as the default. If you manually change the profile to the new one, reboot and invoke Dragon separately, the correct one comes up. But if you just use KnowBrainer, it comes up with the old one. It seems there is a KnowBrainer issue. Easy workaround, however. Just load Dragon first.

KnowBrainer should open the last used profile; checkmarked or not, so something is misbehaving. If KnowBrainer continues opening the wrong profile and you don't need 2 profiles, consider moving your previous %LOCALAPPDATA%\Nuance\NS15\Users\[your username] folder to another address such as %LOCALAPPDATA%\Nuance\NS15\Users\BackupUsers
