What do people think is likely to happen to Dragon over the next couple of years?

Those who know proverbial jack can't and won't say.

Those who can and will "say" don't know jack.

Since I most certainly don't know Jack, and since the CEO already threw down the gauntlet that the next major release will be all about monetizing/dollarizing the "developers", I think the writing is on the wall.

The writing that Redmond is going to monetize itself first.  Tax bill is coming (lest we miss the G7 consensus statement).  Even the Foundation got their ducks in a row.

That's simply exercising corporate responsibility.

With all that invested in Azure this and Cloud that MS should just come out with "Windows 365".  With subscription Windows, then all sorts of goodies can be "free".

Otherwise, why would they make something they bought for $17 billion "free"?

P.S., just this past weekend, while on-call (when I could least afford "sparetime"), I had to spend 6 hours going through all manners of shenanigans just to get my fax modem back online (no fault through my EMR provider and let's not go there on why I still wanted a fax modem, although incoming I do eFax), after Redmond forced 2004 upgrade on my 1909.  Yes apparently 1909 has been EoS'd.  The hospital PCs are still on 18xx.

I would've gladly paid a small sum to not have to spend the 6+ hours.  So why shouldn't M$ upgrade their ransomware to "OSaaS"?
