I have hated Dragon Legal 15 from the moment I started using it. The ridiculous extra characters in words and no help topics about legal formatting. Should I just switch back to Home?
Anyway, I can't download the update from Nuance's website because I got a 404 error, but I found the Dragon legal 15.6 MSI elsewhere. When trying to update, I get "This utility could not find a qualified Dragon product to patch." Is there a way to upgrade from 15.3 without spending money? ------------------------- Dragon is great until it stops being great |

The Home Edition is rubbish that will produce the same extra characters which are likely caused by attempting to dictate into an application over a network. The problem is your network which can be remedied with DragonCapture ------------------------- Forum Mission Statement |

Yes, I meant 15.61, I apologize. Any idea why I would be getting this error? On a comical note, I tried to update again through Nuance and this time got an error message stating I'd already attempted to download it 5 times and would have to visit customer support or go through the vendor where the product was purchased...
Good to know that Home Edition would produce the same results when dictating into non - Select-and-Say applications. ------------------------- Dragon is great until it stops being great |

Dragon thinks you don't have a previous version on your computer so don't try to argue with it. This would be equivalent to asking a politician not to fib. You will have to install Ver. 15.61 as a full installation. You can accomplish this by changing the 3rd digit, of your serial number, from an 8 to a 0. This will allow you to perform a full installation. Change your serial number back to your original upgrade serial number when you are prompted to activate. You will also be prompted for your previous serial number. Now you know why we broke the Dragon Manual which details the installation process and sandtrap solutions. ------------------------- Forum Mission Statement |

Scratch K, I feel your pain. I'm using Dragon Legal as well. Thanks to Lunis, I'm now running Legal 15.61. For me, it's better than the non-legal version, because there is at least some rudimentary legal formatting available. Let's hope that the future Dragon Legal 16 will include significant updates to the legal vocabulary (especially with all that new Latin terminology).
Since you can't find help with legal formatting, here is some guidance that Nuance issued sometime between 2002 and 2010, and presumably still valid - http://nuance.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2572/kw/citations/r_id/100023 How to dictate legal citations with the Legal edition Answer ID 2572 | Published 07/09/2002 12:00 AM | Updated 12/13/2010 01:56 PM How to dictate legal citations with the Legal edition Problem: Dragon NaturallySpeaking Legal Solutions, version 6, contains support for dictating legal citations. There is nothing in the user documentation to explain how to dictate citations because the formatting rules are designed to follow common legal practice. However, resellers and other people who need to train legal professionals can benefit from some examples of how to dictate citations. Solution: Here are some examples of legal citations and how to dictate them. In some cases there is more than one way to dictate the citation and not all the ways are listed here; in particular there are several ways to dictate most numbers. Note that you can pause while dictating acitation, since the formatting rules are applied after the citation is complete. Examples of Citations 262 Ala. 285 (1987) "two hundred sixty two Alabama two hundred eighty five nineteen eighty seven" "two sixty two Alabama two eighty five nineteen eighty seven" 731 P.2d 597 (Alaska Ct. App. 1987) "Seven three one Pacific second five ninety seven Alaska court of appeals nineteen eighty seven" 5 Cal. App. 4th 1 "five california appeals fourth one" "five california court of appeals fourth one" "five california appeals court fourth one" 404 N.E.2d 65 (Ind. Ct. App. 1980) "four oh four northeast second sixty five indiana court of appeals nineteen eighty" 687 A.2d 47 (Pa. Commw. Ct. 1996) "six eighty seven atlantic second forty seven pennsylvania commonwealth court nineteen ninety six" 389 A.2d 1304 (Del. Ch. 1978) "three eight nine atlantic second one three oh four delaware chancery nineteen seventy eight" 146 A.D.2d 537 "one four six appellate division second five three seven" 44 S.Ct. 131 "forty four supreme court one thirty one" 1140 F. Supp. 1140 "one thousand one hundred forty federal supplement one thousand one hundred forty" 5520 Cal. Rptr.2d 3100 (Fla. 1988) "fifty five twenty california reporter second three thousand one hundred florida nineteen eighty eight" 140 Am. Jur. 5770 (Ohio 1920) "one forty american jurisprudence fifty seven seventy ohio nineteen twenty" 223 U.S.P.Q. 3d 365 (1990) "two twenty three US patent quarterly three sixty five nineteen ninety" Fed. R. Crim. P. 1 "federal rule of criminal procedure one" Capitalized Phrases The formatting rules also capitalize many common legal phrases. The user can dictate these phrases without having to say "Cap" or any other special commands to make them capitalized.
