Special thanks to Monkey8 for originally announcing the release of DPI 15.6.
In our opinion, the 3 most important improvements are significantly improved stability, Office 365 (2019) compatibility and the new WinWrap Basic scripting engine which is the same scripting engine we use in KnowBrainer 2017 (w/2020 AI Commands). That means most of the commands we have been sharing here will finally work For our noncustomers we have put together a Digital Download package that includes our Dragon 15.6 installation guide and workarounds for 3 dozen sandtraps. Our customers already have this information.

click on "More" or something like that on the Defender screen, and then you can instruct Windows to permit the installation. |

Matt,
You are right about the warnings. There are 3 sets of Microsoft warnings that need to be dealt with. We have updated our installation guides and the KnowBrainer Dragon Installation/Training Guide, with pictorial details. This is precisely why we send our customers emails that link to the same PDF which is continuously updated; especially now. DPI 15.6 was theoretically ready in mid July and while we can appreciate the time it took to tweak, we don't understand why Microsoft certification was ignored. We experience the same problems with DMPE 4 and thought these types of housekeeping issues would be resolved.

First Freeze with DPI 15.6
I just had my first freeze with DPI 15.6 which I installed earlier today without any reported problems. When I was previously using DPI 15.3 I found that it was very unwise to have Microsoft outlook open while I dictated into another program. The reason was that just having Microsoft outlook open while I was working with DPI 15.3 and dictating into a different program would produce freeze after freeze. The freezing was a problem for many months. Today I worked for approximately 4 hours with DPI 15.6 while Microsoft outlook was open but was not being used. I was working with Microsoft Word, Microsoft edge, and several PDF files. I had noticed that DPI 15.6 was starting to become somewhat slower in operation and was starting to shut things down for the day and had closed all of the PDF files.
The Microsoft Outlook that I use is part of Microsoft 365. The Microsoft 365 program was reinstalled by a Microsoft technician just a few days ago because the use of DPI 15.3 seem to have corrupted the previous installation of 365. The technician found it necessary to manually uninstall the old 365 and reinstall the suite again. Before the above freeze, DPI 15.6 was working absolutely perfectly and seemed to execute commands more rapidly than before. ich is continuously updated; especially now. DPI 15.6 was theoretically ready in mid July and while we can appreciate the time it took to tweak, we don't understand why Microsoft certification was ignored. We experience the same problems with DMPE 4 and thought these types of housekeeping issues would be resolved. Bluestacks.red Omegle |

DPI 15.6 was not officially released and that's why it was not Microsoft certified. It was a pre-release. Nuance has now officially released 15.61 which includes a couple of bug fixes and Microsoft certification. Because of the Ver. 15.3 stability issues, we recommended installing the 15.6 prerelease rather than waiting for the official release. ------------------------- Forum Mission Statement |

Try this - I downloaded English version 15.61 from a link provided by Nuance - This is the link with word changed from "English" to "German" It seems to work - the downloaded file is labled "DPI_15.61.200.010_German.exe"

Thanks for providing the download, Lunis! That's very kind of you, and I greatly appreciate it (as I'm sure many others do).
The upgrade from 15.3 ran smoothly. I'm not sure why it insisted on rebooting the computer just to run the installer. That's not something I've ever seen before, with any product. And lo and behold, when I did that, it asked to reboot again when I reran setup.exe, which I must admit I simply ignored. It's bizarre that in 2020, Nuance insist on opening Internet Explorer to register their product, instead of the default browser! My only regret is that I didn't have access to this version while I was writing my doctoral dissertation. I found 15.3 to be barely usable in Microsoft Word due to the limitation of only being able to have one document open at a time. So in this respect alone, this version promises to be a massive usability improvement. On the other hand, like other programs I rely on (EndNote, Adobe Acrobat), NaturallySpeaking 15.6 still struggles with large Word documents, i.e. documents that are several hundred pages in length. Dragon is just so slow under such circumstances. That's probably a performance limitation in the interface Microsoft provides to third-party application developers, as EndNote bibliography and Acrobat PDF generation from within Word are also painfully slow. I wasn't expecting version 15.6 to fix its performance problem in Microsoft Word, and indeed it hasn't. |

I have just downloaded DNS 15.6 from the KnowBrainer link and installed it by following the instructions contained in the KB Dragon manual for the installation of DNS 15.6.
I followed instructions to the letter including uninstalling my current version DNS 15.3 and I was surprised to see how many files and applications connected to DNS that had to be closed before uninstallation could be completed. Having now installed DNS 15.6 and changing K889 to K809, as well as selecting deferring activation for seven days. I launched DNS 15.6 but the Dragon Activation Product windows did not appear but went straight into opening the program. I then clicked on About Dragon and the splash screen came up showing my serial number as K809 and the version as 15.6. I then had some difficulty in getting rid of the splash screen but eventually it disappeared. So far, I have been able to dictate into Microsoft Word without any prior problems but when I give the command sleep mode, it is recognised as such and the verbal response is "sleeping" but DNS does not go to sleep. My question is: will I have to wait seven days before the activation windows appear. Also, why is sleep mode not working? I have not yet reinstalled my personal commands or vocabulary. ------------------------- Jomark

The Registration page came up this morning (after 7days) and after filling it in I was asked to log in. However, already having a Nuance account I logged in and filled in the correct K889A serial number only to be told that it was already registered in 2016. My question Lunis is: as my splashscreen now shows the serial No as K809A in accordance with your installation instructions, must I now register the serial No as K809A? ------------------------- Jomark

The registration page automatically comes up 7 days after you install Dragon and don't register. Registering is NEVER Required and as you pointed out, you are already registered. In our opinion registering is pretty much a waste of time. After the 7 day reminder pops up, click “don't remind me again”. When you register, you give Nuance permission to spam you and did you notice that they didn't tell you about the official release of Ver. 15.6, the most important message?
It doesn't matter what your splash screen displays. If you had installed DPI using the fake serial number like K809A-G00-0000-0000-00 Dragon would be displaying that number rather than the real activation serial number, as it should. We find it interesting that the Group versions of Dragon no longer display a serial number. ------------------------- Forum Mission Statement |

Welcome (See Mission Statement)
Oddly enough, North American end-users are running into the same brick wall. After a few frustrating attempts, we contacted Nuance Level III support, (only available to the Dragon reseller channel) downloaded and uploaded English DPI 15.6 to our server which resides on a 5 Gb server farm. We added a public direct download link to our opening post but should have additionally noted that it is the English version; our bad. Don't count on receiving an email response from Nuance US or UK corporate but we brought this to their attention yesterday and they are working on it. Also note that all Nuance programmers, developers and Web masters are shuttered so all work has been made considerably more difficult and may take longer than usual. We believe all US and UK resellers have access to Ver. 15.6; although most are probably not yet aware. It usually takes Nuance a few days to weeks to inform their VAR channel. ------------------------- Forum Mission Statement |

In terms of signing desktop application executables there are several types of certification available:
OV (Organisation Validation): which confirms the existence of the organisation and until recent Windows update (1903 I think) allowed you to bypass the defender screen and come straight up with the installation wizard. However Microsoft changed that with the Windows update so you now need to have the second form of verification as detailed below.
EV (Extended Validation): from Windows update 1903 forwards Microsoft will display the defender screen unless you have an extended validation certificate which involves a hardware key attached to your computer. It involves additional checks on your company. For some reason nuance have not yet updated to EV certification.
Thousands of installation packages are now faced with the same issue where the vendor needs to update to EV certification to avoid the defender screen. ------------------------- |

Any idea about how long it might take Nuance to obtain verification from Microsoft? I'd prefer to wait until this occurs before trying to convince my IT department to apply the update. Do you think it would be days/weeks? |

Sorry I have no idea. However the certificates just validate the organisation and you can be pretty sure the install will be fine but then that is up to your organisation. I'm surprised Nuance have not sorted out by now. However there could be all sorts of issues involved in achieving this for an organisation the size of nuance that none of us are aware of. ------------------------- |

Since upgrading to DPI 15.6 I'm experiencing a problem with modal windows in Visual Studio.
For example if I try to add a new item I get cut-off from dictation. And the following dialog box appears.
Obviously it is impossible to respond to this with voice recognition unless I use a keyboard shortcut and open window speech recognition as a workaround.

I seem to be having a different problem from anything I have seen here after the upgrade to 15.6. I want through the installation of the upgrade and everything worked fine, but now I have the problem with every time I try to use the mouse grid I get an error message and and it freezes DPI up. The only way I can get it to work is to restart it.
The first error message I get is: interpreter received unexpected or boring signal Then on top of the error message I have gotten 2 different error messages while I was trying to figure out what was going on. Fatal exception in interpreter under details it says "at line 13 and script natspeak-dvc" Fatal exception in interpreter under details it says "at line 21 in script MyCommands" Actually to make it perfectly clear when I just say mouse grid everything works fine. As soon as I say a number to go to that area I get the error messages. I tried using the KnowBrainer command "MouseGrid Screen" just to see what would happen and I get the same error message. I hope somebody has some idea what might be going on here. Thank you very much in advance for any ideas you might have. Raymond |

No MouseGrid changes have been applied to DPG 15.6 and we suspect DPI 15.6. Our unqualified quess is that when Nuance realized that DPI 16 was no longer around the corner and couldn't be dangled as a marketing offering, they realized that they had to fix DPI as they previously did in DMPE and DPG. DPI 15.3 users experienced stability issues, limited compatibility with Microsoft 365 (2019) and an out of date scripting engine. We cannot test DPI 15.6 but we have verified DPG 15.6 has no problem with Dragon's MouseGrid or KnowBrainer's MouseGrid Screen commands. ------------------------- Forum Mission Statement |

In our opinion the correct answer is to identify and eradicate the actual culprit rather than performing the equivalence of cutting off a finger. If DPI 15.3 was not in critical need of service, Nuance never would have issued the Ver. 15.6 fix. In our opinion, even if you have to go the sledgehammer route of reformatting your computer, we think you would be better off then going to the trouble of exporting your vocabulary and commands, uninstalling Ver. 15.6, installing Ver. 15.0, upgrading to 15.3, creating a new user profile (you will not be able to open your Ver. 15.6 profile) and importing your previous vocabulary and commands... who is to say that your current problem doesn't go away. We are betting that there's a fair chance you will still have the same problem in Ver. 15.3. That damage may have even been inadvertently caused by the Ver. 15.6 installation rather than the application.

Sorry to hear that you have gone back to 15.3, can you really not just survive with MouseGrid with one number or MouseGrid Window with one number? The problem was remembering to only use one digit at a time. I did try to look at the mouse grid commands to see whether I could change so it would only accept one digit at a time but I don't think that was possible. For example, even though I know about this problem, within 20 minutes of starting this morning I had crashed Dragon by dictating more than one digit! The drawback of working from home is obviously I cannot call on colleagues to do some keyboard/mouse work for me! I'm working in a 160-page two-column Word document using up-to-date Microsoft 365. The top, bottom, inside, and outside margins are 0.75", 0.5", 0.75", and 0.75". (Mirror margins are turned on.) The column widths are 3.4" and the spacing is 0.2". DPI would probably even have problems with a single column 160 page long document. You need to divide the document into a series of files no longer than perhaps 40-50 pages each and work on each of them individually. It might be best to initially have just a single column in each file. When you are finished, you can combine the individual files into a single document. Microsoft Word used to have a feature for allowing people to make a master document that links to the individual documents and can print them out as a single unit. However, I have been unable to find that feature in my Microsoft 365 program. I’m writing a book and have more than 100 different files – it’s going to be long – and will have to find a way of dealing with the long document after I have finished all of the writing. DPI simply doesn’t work properly with long documents, and I expect that the problems you have relate both to the length of your document into the fact that you have two columns.

Disaster! I downloaded the DNS 15.6 update from thise site and began the installation. At some point, an error message box popped up saying that a particular file was invalid and that the installation would have to be aborted. Before I can do anything, including writing down the name of the invalid file, the installation aborted. The last words I saw were "Rolling back." I assumed that meant that the installation was rolling back to my original DNS 15.3 setup. Instead, what happened was that my entire DNS directory and every semblance of DNS 15.3 was deleted from my computer! Fortunately, I make an image of my hard drive every night (using Macrium Reflect) and was able to restore my computer to its earlier state, losing very little data that I had entered after the image was made and before the 15.6 installation was started. |

I experienced something similar (and had also started the install immediately after taking a disk image - fortunately). For me the message box hung around long enough for me to do a "window image grab". In my case it was a "permissions" problem - the installer did not have write access to the Start folder (maybe a signing/certification issue?). I fixed the problem and tried the install again. This kept repeating - every time the installer tried to create a folder somewhere the OS blocked the attempt and rolled back. I took image grabs of quite a few of these (which I sent off to Lunis after I got everything installed). I eventually recognized the common thread - failure to create a folder - the message boxes offered a "Retry" button so I created each folder as specified in the message box then clicked the "Retry" button. This work but was tedious. I tried 15.6 for three days (trying hard not to put any data on my C:\ drive), found it to be way too buggy for me to use, then reinstalled the disk image. ------------------------- -Edgar |

Hi Folks and thank you Lunis! I will be upgrading that computer with Win 10 64bit Home edition, (I had to buy the full Win 10 Pro version because you can't upgrade to 10 Pro from a system that had 7 Home version). However, I'm going to download the 15.6 upgrade and save it to a drive for now. I have my previous build setup as a 'bare-bones' bench system because even though I tried to keep my Win 7 O/S drive as a dedicated O/S drive ONLY, I was forced to install some programs to that drive over the years. I need to get some programs from that drive and I think I may have installed my Dragon 15 to that drive as well. I'm going to need to uninstall Dragon 15.3 from that computer and reinstall it to the new Win 10 Pro system and then perform the upgrade to 15.6. I'm a little concerned with the fact that I purchased the DNS 15 for Windows 7 back in 2018 and it may have a conflict with installing to Win 10. However, I'm not too worried because I don't think Win 10 was around back then, at least, not well circulated... Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm guessing that there shouldn't be any problem taking DNS from Win 7 Home to install in Win 10 Pro. I know your question is directed at Lunis but it seems you are basically worried about installing Dragon in Windows 10. Just to say that most people on here are using Windows 10 with Dragon and have no problems installing it or reinstalling. Just a note to say that when you are uninstalling your Dragon from the Windows 7 computer, make sure you are online so that you don't lose an activation. Hi,
I downloaded the EN link above and it installed 15.0 instead of 15.6. So I tried to purchase the guide for 20$, but did not receive a download link or the PDF via email. ?? What am I doing wrong here? Is the English download above in fact the 15.0 installer and not 15.6? The German download site does not work for me, my serial is not recognized. Thanks, Matt |

It seems that the Nuance certification problem for DPI 15.6 has been automatically solved.
I downloaded the update the first day when Lunis posted the link, and tried to install immediately, but abandoned the installation when I saw Microsoft's warning about the program not being certified. I then obediently waited to see an update promised to be posted by Lunis here (except that I checked every day, not every few days as suggested), but lost patience today, and decided to install the download anyway, prepared to ignore the warning when it appears.
Well, absolutely no warning occurred in the installation. I did an update (rather than a complete uninstall and reinstall cycle), and everything seemed to have worked just fine. Obviously, Windows certification check relies upon information external to the program itself. I believe it is just a matter of the Windows operating system automatically checking an online registry during the installation. Clearly, the registry has being updated.
But whether Nuance is going to soon release a different (and somehow improved) version of DPI 15.6, I do not know. All I know is that this one works for now. |

Frankly, I expected to see 15.6 installed and am surprised because I did use the download supplied by the KnowBrainer website. However, from what I'm reading in these posts, generally speaking, it seems that 15.6 isn't performing so good.

You did not install Ver. 15.6. You installed Ver. 15.0. If you had not installed Ver. 15.0, you would not have been prompted to install the Ver. 15.3 patch. DPI 15.6 is a full installation; not a patch. The Dragon Check for Updates menu only looks for patches. Nuance has informed us that they will 'soon' officially release a Ver. 15.6 patch and full installation. As you know, Nuance is not permitting us to publicly offer a download from our server but we have another solution: For our noncustomers we have put together a Digital Download package that includes our Dragon 15.6 installation guide and workarounds for 3 dozen sandtraps. Thanks, Lunis,
Yes, I came to realize the download I saved from the KB forums back on the 23rd was the main DPI 15 installer. I've always been quite satisfied with the DPI 15.3 and whenever Nuance decides to let KB release 15.6, I'll see what others think and decide if the update is something I should go with. It's like Windows 7, which wasn't broken and yet someone in MS felt it needed to be 'fixed'. If it's anything like Windows 10 compared to Windows 7, the old adage; "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" comes to mind, IMO. It might have a nice, new, shiny, paint job, and some racing stripes on the fenders, but that 'ain't gonna to make it go any faster'. 2. Microsoft 365 (2019) compatibility
On my 2019 computer DPI 15.6 is not compatible with Microsoft outlook that comes as part of Microsoft 365. If Microsoft outlook is open and I am working in a different program, I will pretty soon get a freeze that shows that Outlook is using 20% or more of the CPU. The freeze will go on and on. Typically I have to kill both Outlook and DPI 15.6. Of course if I dare to dictate within Outlook, the same sort of problem soon surfaces. I don't have this type of problem with other programs that are open or being used except that in one instance Knowbrainer produced a freeze that used slightly more than 40% of my CPU. The task manager showed that Knowbrainer was using that much CPU, and I had to kill Knowbrainer and DPI. At that time I had the Knowbrainer command window open and also had a command open in DPI. At that time my 2019 computer had the very latest command file for Knowbrainer. I've been very busy with some things and haven't had a chance to try and reproduce the problem with Knowbrainer and after transferring all of my commands into DPI haven't had many occasions on this computer to use Knowbrainer. With modern computers and modern software and umpteen drivers there are so many possible reasons why freezes could occur I suspect. A Dell computer that I purchased in 2013 works perfectly with Knowbrainer but is using a very old command file and I never have the Knowbrainer command editor open while DPI command browser is also open. If I want to reply to a long email, I have to copy it into Microsoft Word so that I can be sure I respond to all points. Then I must close Outlook. Next I dictate a reply in Microsoft Word, open up Outlook and paste the reply into it. Fortunately, I don't seem to have problems when dictating within Microsoft Word - but then I didn't before 15.6. DPI 15.6 has not been much of a fix for me. There were no errors when I installed it. KnowBrainer isn't the culprit in the Dragon super freeze; not to be confused with the Covid-19 SuperSpreader. When Dragon freezes, everything connected to Dragon, which includes Microsoft Word, WordPerfect, Outlook and KnowBrainer, also freeze because they are all hooked into Dragon. Having said that, we haven't had any problems with Outlook since upgrading to DPG 15.6. You might try uninstalling and reinstalling Outlook? ------------------------- Forum Mission Statement |

We can't qualify our answer because we don't use memoQ but we recommend everyone upgrade; even though DPI 15.6 is a prerelease. Nuance isn't ready to officially release DPI 15.6. They still need to fix the MouseGrid feature and there may be a couple of aesthetics but we don't see much wrong. Of course it's not yet Microsoft certified and Nuance informed us that they would like to create an update that can be downloaded from Dragon's Check for Updates menu. I have two Dragon 15.x licences: (1) DPI 15 (now at 15.2), which I purchased direct from Nuance, and (2) DPG 15.6, which I purchased through Lunis at KnowBrainer.
Since I am currently using DPG 15.6 on my main PC, I did not feel an urgent need to obtain DPI 15.6 in September. Especially since it seemed to have been released a bit prematurely, without signatures, etc. I figured I could wait until things settled down.
Q2: Have things settled down yet? Have official full installations and/or patches been released.
Q3: How can I obtain DPI 15.6? Since I purchased DPI 15.6 straight from Nuance, I guess I missed Lunis' customer emauil - I am a DPG customer from his POV, not a DPI customer.
Q4: Do I need to install DPI 15.6 via "the Dragon Help/Check for Updates menu which cannot handle full releases"? Like most, I prefer a full release, but I will take a patch if it is free and the full release is not. I don't have DPI 15.3 installed on any active PC at the momnt, but I should probably do so to obtain the patch before it goes away (if it has not already disappeared from thwe web)
Q5: Or is there a place that I can obtain a full release from?
To my surprise I have not received any DPI 15.6 announcement email from Nuance. Or anyone.

Are you attempting to install over Ver. 15.3 (which is now acceptable) or are you attempting a full installation with an upgrade serial number? Welcome (See Mission Statement)
The Dragon update only looks for patches; not full copies like the DPI 15.61 w/Installation/User Guide (including details on fixing 3 dozen sandtraps). Dragon automatically searches for updates every couple of weeks but half the time it doesn't even catch patches. That's why we are here

Great that someone else has confirmed that if you run visual studio as administrator, you no longer have an issue with the dialogue boxes.
However, any ideas how I can run the program as the administrator? The best way so far I have discovered is to pin it to the taskbar and then say [press Windows key 1]. I would like to know why the old method (set the shortcut to run as administrator) and then say [Start (name of shortcut)]. ------------------------- DPI 15.6.1 |

I have not tried the shortcut idea yet but I am confident that would work. For example, I now have visual studio pinned it to the desktop and if I use [Press Windows Key 1] or [Press Shift Windows Key 1], it works. In other words, if you are not depending on a dragon Start command, it works.
However, my main question is why has Dragon seemingly changed how it internally launch applications? In version 15 and 15.3, if I said [Start (name of shortcut)] and that shortcut was set to run as administrator, it worked but now it doesn't? ------------------------- DPI 15.6.1 |

Our understanding is that the loss of Dragon's 15.6 ability to launch desktop shortcuts was simply a goof that was fixed in 15.61. Keep in mind that Ver. 15.6 was a prerelease that was not intended to be available to the public in its condition. We simply felt it was necessary because of so many Ver. 15.3 problems

I may not be explaining my question clear enough. Let's forget desktop shortcuts for a moment.
If I manually click the start menu, scroll down to Visual Studio 2019, right click, select more and then select open file location, you are taken to the location of the shortcut. You can then amend its properties so that it runs as administrator. Thereafter, when you run the shortcut, the program runs with elevated permissions. The above successfully worked in DPI versions 15 and 15.3. However, in 15.6.1, when I say [Start Visual Studio 2019], it correctly runs the program but not as administrator. Also this has nothing to do with visual studio because I can reproduce this behaviour in Notepad + +. I have renamed the shortcut to "notepad plus" to make it easier for Dragon to recognise. If I use the mouse to click Start Menu, then Notepad Plus it runs as administrator. If I say [Start Notepad Plus], it runs but not as administrator (I have just tried these actions again to confirm them). ------------------------- DPI 15.6.1 |

Hi!
It's futile to ask why Nuance has changed something - you'll never get a decisive answer.
My best guess is that while trying to fix some other problem, the developer thought it to be a good idea to just read the target application and arguments from the link and then run the application (probably using CreateProcess with default settings).
No one thought about additional compatibility settings for desktop shortcuts and now the behavior is as it is...

It has been confirmed many times. OK, not specifically with the shortcuts in the Startup folder, but those are just like any other shortcut (on the Desktop or anywhere). The point is, Dragon has special code for accessing Desktop and Startup folder shortcuts from anywhere (as we are discussing - it used to work). But as Mav pointed out, while the selection and recognition of shortcut names still functions (and that is a convenience that has all of us hoping this bug gets fixed soon), *executing* that shortcut without literally bringing it to focus in an active window (which my "hover and right click" kludge requires) means Dragon has to launch a background process (and make it universal over various Windows flavors). As Mav says, they (by and large, Nuance engineers are not _users_ of Dragon) didn't think "about additional compatibility settings for desktop shortcuts" just like they didn't originally think about passed in file names in shortcuts.
At least Nuance has been somewhat more responsive in recognizing these key usability bugs, but please, everyone that can should lodge this as a bug with them. Thx, -------------------------

1 of the advantages of 15.61 over 15.6 is being able to install over the top of 15.6, 15.3 or even 15.0. DPI 15.61 uninstalls the previous version. Note that although Dragon makes no changes to your user profiles, if you install Ver 15.61 over Ver. 15.3, your user folder will be moved from %PROGRAMDATA%\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking15\Users\ to %LOCALAPPDATA%\Nuance\NS15\Users\. ------------------------- Forum Mission Statement |

Ver. 15.61 is newer than Ver. 15.6. That's why it's called Ver. 15.61 and you can install Ver. 15.6 over the top of Ver. 15.61. If you have had Dragon running, you might consider rebooting Windows before attempting this installation. Remember that previous email that said “We STRONGLY recommend saving this message...”? We have answered this question many times. Dragon's auto and manual Check for Updates menu only looks for patches; not full releases. Even then, Dragon's Check for Updates feature only works half the time. Nuance doesn't seem to be too good at reaching out to their customers for free upgrades but very good at reaching their customers for paid releases. The Nuance official DPI 15.61 download site rejects customer serial numbers at least 50% of the time. If Nuance didn't insist on complicating this simple service with questions and requiring your serial number, it would be far more bulletproof. If you're tired of Nuance's frequently failing red tape, consider our Ver. 15.61 offering for the non-expiring latest version of Dragon w/Installation/User Guide (including details on fixing 3 dozen sandtraps) and lots of other perks. Sorry Lunis.. I appreciate you must be fed up with people repeating the same question but I was simply responding to the update screen that popped up when I opened Dragon. If Nuance tell me there is an update and to download it from a link they provide.. I think that it is pretty natural to assume that that Nuance link should work and be confused when it does not! When it didn't, I thought that could probably find the answer here... and I have, many thanks for that. In a previous life, I was very dependent on a rather temperamental Dragon for my work and was a very frequent visitor to your site.. now retired, I only use Dragon very infrequently when I am writing an article or an extra long letter and am content with the way 14 and now 15 have been working (particularly since I found a 431 Mkii at a sensible price... just brilliant!).. hence I am only visting very occasionally. When Ver. 15.6 was released, it was necessary to uninstall your previous Dragon installation (Ver. 15. or 15.3). One of the advantages of Ver. 15.61 is that it can be installed over the top of Ver. 15.0 - 15.5 but you have to make certain no pieces of Dragon are running in memory. Installed DPI 15.61 over 15.3 using Lunis' instructions in KB Dragon Manual. All went smoothly and 15.61 picked up all the settings changes I had made with installation of 15.3. Nuance's #1 reason for releasing Ver. 15.3 was to remedy the Jumping Cursor problem in Microsoft Word and especially Outlook 2016. It did not include support for Microsoft 365 (2019).
Nuance's #1 reason for releasing Ver. 15.61 was to eliminate freezing. The #2 reason was Microsoft 365 (2019) support. We have since learned that Nuance's Jumping Cursor solution may only apply when using Microsoft Word in the default Print Layout view. Because we rarely use Word in other views or work with large documents, we haven't experienced the Jumping Cursor issue sense Ver. 15.3 was released. We have since learned that the Jumping Cursor problem still exists in other views and longer documents. We recommend using the Print Layout view and chopping larger documents into temporary 40 page chapters. Additionally note that we have absolutely no Jumping Cursor or speed issues dictating into the 81 page Quick Tips document (in Microsoft Word 2019) BUT we are also working with 64 Gb of RAM and suspect it may make a difference on larger documents; especially when using 19.2 Gb of RAM as we are now. We are not recommending 64 GB of RAM but rather pointing out that we do not experience these problems in our new computer or last computer (which also includes 64 GB of RAM). ------------------------- Forum Mission Statement |

While Nuance might have tried to remedy the Jumping Cursor problem with v.15.3, the problem is still completely unchanged up to this day.
Additionally, a new and more severe issue has been introduced with v.15.3, and made worse with v.15.6, the Jumping Page problem.
Additionally note that we have absolutely no Jumping Cursor or speed issues dictating into the 81 page Quick Tips document (in Microsoft Word 2019)

Ahhh... we see what you mean. Our Jumping Cursor definition is completely different from yours. Our definition of a Jumping Cursor is when attempting to dictate into Microsoft Outlook, with Dragon Ver. 15.0, our cursor would physically jump to a new position and deposit our dictation in the wrong place. We believe we had the same problem in Microsoft Word with Dragon 13 or 12. In our opinion, this is not a Jumping Cursor problem. It is a jumping page problem where the page jumps up and down. We commonly experience this problem but we just keep dictating. The page might be a little off but the cursor doesn't actually move or lose it's place. The classic Jumping Cursor problem was much worse. We run into a similar problem here when attempting to edit text near the beginning of a message, when the message extends below the end of the box. Although our cursor drops the dictation into the right place, the window scrolls to the bottom and we can't see our text. This is actually a lot worse than the Microsoft Word problem which simply has a rather annoying case of the jitters. This problem is survivable but agreeably annoying, like the Big Haired Lady. We additionally concur that Nuance could have and should have fixed this problem, which as Chuck used to say “a showstopper”. There was a time when Dragon would not have even been released until this type of problem was fixed because it would have been too embarrassing for the manufacturer. ------------------------- Forum Mission Statement |

Feel free to call Nuance (800) 654-1187 but considering that tech-support is outsourced to a group of friendly chaps in India (who have never used Dragon) you will probably have better luck panning for gold in the US congressional cesspool. You can try rolling back to Ver. 15.3 but we suspect you will have the same problem. All we can tell you is that we've been using Ver. 15.61 for 13 months without this problem.

Here is another report of the Jumping Page problem in Microsoft Word: I loaded DPI 15.61 about ten days ago (i5 Intel processor, MSI motherboard approximately five years old, 8 GB of RAM, Windows 10, Office 10). I use Word with voice commands only, so I can't speak to interplay with a mouse. But the page moves up and down unmercifully whenever I edit documents of more than a single page, even when my edits are on the same page that I am viewing. The situation is worst using the view that allows you to see facing pages instead of a single page. For reference, I use Print View for both.
I want to raise another consideration that I don't think has been mentioned. I think the Jumping Page problem could raise medical concerns for people with photosensitive epilepsy (epilepsy that can be set off by blinking lights). Maybe some of the doctors who frequent this board could comment, but I would think it might be wise for Nuance to issue a trigger warning about this possibility to its existing and potential new customers. One time last week I was editing heavily in Word in the double-page view, and the Jumping Page problem degenerated into a regular pattern of flashes one second apart. I was able to stop it by telling Dragon to go to sleep and then to wake up, but I'm guessing that this could be particularly problematic for people with epilepsy. ------------------------- The woman who dueled with Aaron Burr and won: www.MmeJumel.com

Ver. 15.61 was primarily released to deal with the freezing issue, Outlook 2019 support and replacing SAX scripting with WinWrap Basic (for Advanced-Scripting commands). Ver. 15.61 is not as freezing proof as it once was. We believe this was caused by a Windows update. It also temporarily affected KnowBrainer 2017. We do not know if Nuance will release another patch or hold onto a solution for Ver. 16. Nuance has not notified the reseller channel that Ver. 15.61 has been recalled so it seems unlikely but Nuance also occasionally makes VAR channel notifications a few weeks late. ------------------------- Forum Mission Statement |

FYI: I have reverted to 15.3. Thank goodness for backups I completely restored my desktop and laptop and those 10 PCs and all seems fine now. ------------------------- Member: International Institute of Not Doing Much |

Just installed 15.61 on my laptop with no problems however on my desktop it refuses to do "tray icon only" mode. In "Options->Appearance-> Docked to top" works. "Modern" works. "Floating" works. "Cling" works. But "tray icon only" leaves the tray icon but when you right-click on it instead of getting a menu with "microphone", "profile", "tools" etc. it either says "Open" or "Exit Dragon" if you "Open" it goes back to whatever previous mode you had before you tried to do "Tray Icon Only". I tried doing a complete uninstall and reinstall. No joy. |

Yes, that's an unfortunate design change by Nuance. Of course, you can trigger the underlying menu items with Advanced Scripting commands. I just use the Dragonbar docked to the bottom. |
