Hi all,
Is it true that Dragon 15.5 or any version for that matter, only supports dictation in Office 365? -------------------------

Ver. 15.4 introduced Office 365 (2019) support. Ver. 15.5 introduced significantly improved stability and a new Advanced-Scripting engine. If you are using DPI 15.3, the previously mentioned features will likely not become available until Ver. 16 is released. ------------------------- Forum Mission Statement |

Thanks. I just cannot seem to find any official documentation on these questions. Like many people, we have increasing numbers working from home. We have just heard that they will be using Office 365 online and MS Teams. Our team has not had a chance to run DPG15.5, which we have, against these to provide meaningful advice.
Do you believe that support extends to the online 365 Office and MS Teams? Any advice is much appreciated. -------------------------

Rather than focusing on Dragon hype we prefer the slang phrase “Dragon friendly”. When we say Dragon friendly, we mean Active Accessibility and Select-&-Say.
Active Accessibility means that you can click on buttons and menus by voice. For example, if you wish to click the File menu, you can just say click <file>.
Select-&-Say is now called Full Text Control but we prefer the old school term. When you have Select-&-Say, Dragon knows where all of the words are in your document. For example, if you physically move your cursor to the end of a sentence that ends in a period, Dragon will not only get the spacing correct but will also start the next word with a capital letter. If you dictate “the brown fox jumped over the fence” you can say <select, delete, capitalize, italisize, underline or bold> <brown fox> to apply the appropriate formatting. You do not have to select the text with your mouse. You may be thinking that the only way you can tell is to test but that's not necessarily true. Just look for the green • in the DragonBar. If you see the green •, chances are you are in a Dragon friendly application such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel, DragonPad, Notepad, WordPad, Microsoft Edge (2nd generation with appropriate Dragon extension), Google Chrome, Firefox and if you dare... Internet Explorer. This might seem like a lot but most other browsers, applications and utilities are not Dragon friendly. A good example is Windows 10 Sticky Notes. When you create a Sticky Note, you may or may not be able to dictate but Dragon has no idea where the words are. Sticky Notes automatically capitalizes the 1st word but you will notice that your dictation looks more like a blazing fast typist. Dragon friendly applications buffer your dictation until you take a breath. At this point, Dragon will drop your dictation as if you were pasting from the Dragon buffer. When you dictate into non-Dragon friendly applications, you will see your dictation deposited one letter at a time. After you are spoiled by Microsoft Word, you will not be happy dictating into non-Dragon friendly environments and in many cases, Dragon will simply refuse to accept dictation. It would be a perfect world if we only worked with Dragon friendly apps but there are far more non-Dragon friendly apps than friendly apps. Enough with the rambling and back to your original question… The DragonCapture (third party utility) was created to force Dragon to directly dictate everywhere with perfect capitalization and spacing. No matter what unfriendly Dragon application you run into, DragonCapture will force direct Dragon dictation but there's a fly in ointment here also. When you attempt to correct DragonCapture dictation, you are likely to wind up with improper spacing and capitalization because DragonCapture doesn't actually know where the words are. It just appears this way. That's where KnowBrainer 2017 (yet another third-party utility) comes into play. KnowBrainer includes pseudo-Select-&-Say so that in most applications, that use typical Microsoft conventions, you can verbally select, delete, italicize, bold, underline, delete and even capitalize words the same way you can in Microsoft Word. Even better, when you select incorrect/edit any phrase, KnowBrainer will automatically move the cursor to the end of the current paragraph. Is everything starting to look a little complicated right about now? Welcome to our world. You'll find 30 day trials, of various utilities, in our signature tag TRIAL DOWNLOADS link. . ------------------------- Forum Mission Statement |

So, Lunis, am I right to assume that DPG 15.5 will work perfectly with the local Office 2019 version not just the 365 option?

Let's start off with the Office 2019/365 misnomer. Both are the same applications with the exception of Office 365 additional including the option of working in the cloud; which most end-users do not use. Office 365 applications are all 2019 and we suspect that you can't even purchase Office 2019 (local).
Ver. 15.4 was primarily released to introduce Office 365/2019 support. Ver. 15.5 was introduced primarily for stability reasons (which Nuance has been working on for many years) and changing out the dated SAX Basic scripting engine for WinWrap (which is included in KnowBrainer). As far as is end-users creating Advanced-Scripting commands, the end-user appearance is the same but WinWrap Basic is considerably faster and more bulletproof.

Hi Lunis, sorry if this sounds like a silly question - what do you mean "DPI15.3 users are going to have to wait until version 16"? Can we not just upgrade to e.g. 15.6? (instructions here https://voicepower.co.nz/dragon-professional-legal-nz-group-v15-6-update/) -------------------------

You are confusing DPI with DPG. As you will see, the DPG 15.6 Upgrade is also available on our site but we would hate to see you spend $350 only because you need Ver. 15.6 and not necessarily the other features. These are 2 different animals. When this tread started, 5 months ago, this discussion was about the possible release of DPI 15.5. We believe Nuance was planning on releasing DPI 16 so they didn't intend to patch DPI 15.3. The COVID-19 changed all of that. Because DPI 16 has been delayed for another year, Nuance has decided to release DPI 15.6 as a complimentary upgrade to DPI 15 users. ------------------------- Forum Mission Statement |

"Nuance has decided to release DPI 15.6 as a complimentary upgrade to DPI 15 users"
But this has not happened yet, correct? If DPI 15.6 has been released, where can I find it? Thanks. |

If you reread our last post, it specifically states “DPI 15.6 is due to be released any day now” as in not yet released. We have a prerelease so we know it's coming but no one can or will ever be able to give you an ETA on any Dragon releases. We can only tell you the day it's released and Nuance doesn't usually inform their own reseller channel (that's us) until about a week after a new release. It's also unlikely you will find this information in your Dragon Check for Updates menu. Please DON'T email us for an ETA because we are daily deluged with this request. You will find your answer here faster. When DPI 15.6 is released, we will announce it here and include a download. We will also pin this announcement to the top of this Dragon forum for 8 weeks, to give everyone ample time to check back. ------------------------- Forum Mission Statement |
