I am thinking of buying M1 Pro 14 inch base model.

2021 Apple MacBook Pro (14-inch, Apple M1 Pro chip with 8?core CPU and 14?core GPU, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD)

This might be a stupid question, but just to make sure, is this enough power to run Parallel and DNS?

I am behind in up grades of KB. I am version 15.

I probably have to upgrade other aspects, but I am not sure.  I have been using windows 10 and have had problems with losing connection with all the extra words ect that I put into DNS (my profile).  I am hoping that this will also solve that problem.

Maybe I should stick to my pc until windows 11 is stable. But I can't get the profile to connect to DNS. I tried hiding the profile and then returning it to the folder where it should be recognized by DNS. It still was not recognized.

1. It is nearly impossible to overload your user profile vocabulary so we doubt this is an issue

2. We do not recommend purchasing a Mac. It is more expensive, no better and no advantage. If you are thinking that Mac computers are built better, this isn't necessarily true. For example, M-Tech computers are the only notebook computers built in the US; unlike Macs which are assembled in China. 16 Gb of RAM will be split between Windows and the Apple OS so you would only have 8 Gb of RAM to dedicate to Windows. This is acceptable but not ideal. We minimally recommend 32 Gb of RAM for a Mac which is another reason not to purchase one. Of course you don't necessarily need a new computer.

3. You are currently using KnowBrainer 2017 but we just released the KnowBrainer 2020 Upgrade

4. You purchased DPI 15 in December of 2016 and if you haven't updated, it is a little out of date. The latest release is Ver. 15.61 which is a lifetime download w/Installation/User Guide of Ver. 15.3, Ver. 15.61 and Ver. 15.7.1 (when or if it is released), details on fixing 28 sandtraps and other perks. Note that because of the complexity involved, we are charging a $20 service fee

The "moral" of the fable is positively archaic.  But its utility is thoroughly timeless.

What's wrong with "enjoying" both?  Get a decent Wintel rig to help Dragon pay your mortgage, and a MacBook to look good, and feel good with.

Well it probably will set you back US$5000.

But:

a) Money is just zeros in a computer somewhere, no?

b) As you pay down mortgage, property appreciation in 1 month (or is it 1 week?) will pay for your MacBook all by itself and some, no?  From Amsterdam to Tokyo to Micronesia, anywhere this is not true today?

c) There is always hope that Cupertino will introduce some "M1-friendly" crypto for you to mine ... some day.

Thankfully we don't live in that barbarous Warring States Period (or wait ...) when our wretched señorita was made to "choose" one or the other.  You can actually have your cake and eat it, too.

Git both.

And come back to help the community during your spare time by answering questions such as this one.

You are both very helpful. Thank you. I am not very savvy with any computer much less a PC. I have a 2012 Mac and it is simply outdated. Nothing works well with it. So, I do need a new computer. I have had so much difficulty with Windows. I have a 16 GB Windows 10 PC just for Dragon. The programs that are used with Windows are also hard to use. So, there is no way that I will want to buy a PC.

So, after seeing what Lunis is saying about needing 32 gb Ram (which is called Unified memory in the Mac world I believe) that costs about about 2,800 dollars. 16 GB would cost $1999. I stuck with the 2012 Mac for 10 years. I imagine in 10 years I will still be using this 16 inch laptop. Let's see how great I feel about this in 10 years. Probably my biggest problem will not be my ancient computer. It will be my ancient body.

Lunis, if I got the Mac laptop working with Windows 10 or 11, would you be able to set up the new version and avoid my problem with my profile? I would be happy to pay 20 dollars if you could do that. I can install the new version, the problem is to get the profile to connect. Or maybe installing the new version would fix my silly problem with the profile. I guess it is hard to say anything about windows 11.

Installing on the new computer might fix your problems but we charge considerably more for our Global White Glove Remote Support. However, we offer a “Do-it-yourself” option for installing Ver.

Also note that we have just released the KnowBrainer 2020 Upgrade
