Hi,

I posted about something similar before here where visual studio code lagged a lot when I had speechstart running, so when I am using visual studio code I do not run speechstart.

Now the same thing is happening if I have knowbrainer running but the lag is not as bad. When I close knowbrainer the lag disappears.

Everything works fine if I am using a different IDE like Atom or IntelliJ.

What do you think will fix the issue, as I know most people on here run visual studio code with no problems?

I have tried reinstalling visual studio code and that made no difference.

Do you think reinstalling Dragon or knowbrainer would make any difference?

Thanks,

Rob

Hi Rob,
I use KnowBrainer and Visual Studio code without any problems. The only thing I can think that I've done differently is, I have not imported the latest KnowBrainer commands directly.
I will only import a command if I'm definitely going to use it.
If you've got an old KnowBrainer commands XML file you could try as a test to use that. Then if the lag goes away you know what the problem is at least.
I have over 4000 commands and 207 lists, which is more than the latest KnowBrainer command set, so it's probably not directly linked to the number of commands. But perhaps specific commands?
Also I don't tend to disable commands but delete them instead.

Thanks Mark

@Mphilipson I am already using quite an old knobrainer command file so not sure that would work.

Do your scripted commands deploy just as fast as anywhere else in vs code?

it seems to be working ok again with knowbrainer maybe just a smidge slower than in Atom, nothing was changed so don't know what was causing the lag. Still can't use speech start with vs code though as it still causes a lot of lag, the details I link to in my first post above.

Do you use speech start just wondering to see if you get the same issue?

Hi,

I am having a problem with lag in visual studio code again of any dictation and commands of around 2 - 3 seconds on average, when I try to dictate for example there is a lag of around 2 - 3 seconds between speaking and then it will output the words at the usual speed anywhere else.

I am not seeing lag in any other application.

It feels like how visual studio behaves when having to update the nsuser.ini file with for example

[Code|1.71\Compatibility Module Status]
Global Dictation=0

[Code|1.71\Compatibility Module Status]
Global Dictation=1

That hasn't worked this time, other things I have tried that have not worked so far are using a new dragon profile and making using dragon without knowbrainer and speechstart.

Anyone have an idea of what would fix it?

Thanks,
Rob

We are not certain but suspect DragonCapture will eliminate this delay. You'll find a 30 day trial in our signature tag. Like Dragon, DragonCapture buffers your dictation but unlike Dragon, it immediately deposits your text (one letter at a time). DragonCapture also capitalizes 1st word when you move your cursor to a different position.

As far as I know other users on here who use visual studio code are not having to use DragonCapture to stop lag in input from dragon, but it would be good to hear from other users again to see if that is still the case?

Even if I used DragonCapture I don't think it would help the lag from other commands like saying backspace 5 to delete the previous 5 characters or moving the cursor up 2 lines for example.

Also there is not normally any lag for me when using dragon in visual studio code.

Thanks,
Rob

DragonCapture would not make any difference to command deployment

Unsure if this will help your particular issue but I have been finding DNS15 very slow in VS Code without knowbrainer. After trying a million different things I have found that it works fine provided that I don't use any application-specific custom commands, i.e. I just put my VS code commands as global commands. HTH, Jay.

Try turning off the UIA/Dragon element tree scanning which you can do via the miscellaneous tab in options.

Remember then to restart Dragon and visual studio but make sure you don't inadvertently switch WPF fulltext control back on by doing this.

Another thing to try, Visual studio uses WPF with many of its dialogues which consequently can slow it down and causes issues with some of the WPF dialogues like opening new projects. Make sure you turn off WPF fulltext control (even though it doesn't provide fulltext control anyway) and see if that makes a difference, see post below. Unfortunately you will need to turn off the WPF text control every time you load Windows, just write yourself a macro.

In terms of the nsusers.ini, if you are unable to dictate into visual studio, then the setting you need to check is the following.

[.Global\Compatibility Module Status]

Global Dictation=1

Hi, I tried turning off UIA/Dragon element tree scanning but it made no difference.

How do you turn off WPF fulltext control, I had a search but I don't think I found the right thing?

Thanks,
Rob

Hi,

Found WPF fulltext control when I clicked it it enabled it, so it was already disabled so it was not that.

Thanks,
Rob

I am now using a different computer and visual studio and dragon work together as they should, it does not seem that any settings are different.
