I'm wondering if anyone could compare for me the functionality of SpeechStart+ and Voice Computer.

I have been using SpeechStart+ off and on for a couple of years. It's pretty good, but it has some limitations I'm hoping to overcome. A big one is that it is extremely slow in the browser, often taking ten seconds or more to complete the "show flags" command (or any of the other commands to show clickable elements) even on a very fast computer. It also doesn't work at all for certain applications, such as Slack. Is Voice Computer any better in these regards? Or, failing that, does anyone have recommendations for superior click-by-voice products?

I tried to generate a short video to show you the speed of voicecomputer on a couple different applications. But the files were too large. Anyway, here I'm showing the speed of Indexing Slack. I hope this gives you a clue of how the speed is and how well it does with Slack. My apologies for such a poor video. If you have any questions let me know.

By the way, I agree that voice access looks promising.However, I'm sure it will still only be able to number Microsoft friendly control types. Where VoiceComputer will still shine Is that you can customize Overlays for non-friendly pages. When I say non-friendly pages, in this forum, is usually non-speech-friendly that we're talking about. I don't mean that, there are proprietary and other unique control types that don't render nicely. Thunderbird is an example where almost everything exists as a single class type. There are a few other customized "types" that are used in other applications as well.

The SpeechStart+ SHOW Numbers command takes about 3 seconds on our “less than optimal” Windows 11 OS, using Microsoft Edge as our browser. We don't know if VoiceComputer will work in Slack but we strongly prefer to keep the numbers in sight until we decide to turn them off. In SpeechStart+, you have to reopen the numbers after you click each one. We are recommending a little patience because new numbering technologies appear to be on the horizon. Microsoft is due to release Windows 11 Voice Access on or around September 1. We doubt Microsoft will want to compete with Dragon (since they own it) so we suspect that Dragon 16 will include some form of minimally simple numbering technology. Of course we are only guessing but perhaps more importantly, numbering technology will be supported in KnowBrainer 2023. The upcoming VerbalBasic III will also allow end-users to utilize the new numbering technology in personal commands. And… Most importantly, this technology will be Eric Trump simple.

Thanks everyone for your helpful advice and that great video demonstration. It looks like Voice Computer has a lot of the functionality I'm looking for.

Lunis, do you know what the compatibility of KB 2023's numbering system will be like relative to those of competing products? Will it be faster than the others and compatible with Slack?

On occasion, I use SpeechStart+ with Slack. You might check the compatibility of your monitor and computer. I find that some monitors will give incorrect coordinates for SpeechStart+. I tried using VoiceComputer and found it incompatible with Slack.
