Speech Productivity 2.1 released

(current customers already got this for free)

- Optimization for fast processors added

Some elements of the code were cleaned up and optimized for fast processors.

- Additional Clipboard version of Dictation Box added

The SP dictation box by default doesn't change the Windows clipboard. That means you

won't loose any previously stored clipboard data (such as files, folders or text) when you

use it (contrary to Dragon's native dictation box)

However, sometimes this can act as a extra safety measure. Target applications in Windows 10 sometimes lose focus) So I added a second, clipboard version, of the SP dictation box. So if there's ever any misfire due to Windows 10 focus problems you won't lose any of your dictation.

So now you can choose which one you will use, or you can use both with an additional voice command.

The latest version of Speech Productivity (2.2) has a little extra: it includes an additional basic KnowBrainer command set. Current customers will get this command set for free.
Now, let's get to the interesting part: are the KnowBrainer commands faster than the standard Speech Productivity DVC commands (which are very fast to begin with)?
I've tested this in two different situations on three different systems:
I5 3570 3.40 GHZ 16 GB ‌Win10 (Asus mainboard) DPI 15
I7 3770 3.40 GHZ 8 GB Win 7 (Gigabite mainboard) DPI 14
I7-6700K 4.00 GHZ 16 GB ‌Win 10 (Asus mainboard) DPI 15
All three systems use the standard Realtek sound chip with the same (very basic) headset. All systems have similar software programs installed. Not exactly foolproof or reliable in any way and definitely needs more testing, but it may give a first impression (additional testing by Speech Productivity customers that have KnowBrainer installed is welcome). Anyway here's my findings:
1. Speech Productivity commands were imported into KnowBrainer 2017 with the default XML (containing thousands of KB commands). All Speech Productivity DVC commands were deleted from the Dragon Command Browser which after that holds a 330 KB Dragon command file (before it was about 340 KB).
2. Speech Productivity commands were imported into a completely cleaned out (empty) KnowBrainer 2017 XML (this is not the same as simply disabling KB commands from within the program).
All Speech Productivity DVC commands were deleted from the Dragon Command Browser which holds a 330 KB Dragon command file.
Situation 1:
With KnowBrainer 2017 and the default XML (thousands of commands) loaded, performance is slightly slower (about 10 %) compared to running Dragon alone with the Speech Productivity DVC commands.
Situation 2:
With KnowBrainer 2017 and the cleaned out XML loaded (only KB format Speech Productivity commands) performance is noticeably faster (about 30 %) compared to running Dragon alone. Especially Speech Productivity's Dictation box and Quick store in combination with KnowBrainer 2017 really load fast.
I've done some additional testing with gradually growing KB XML command sets and the results were accordingly.
This confirms, at least on these three systems, that Lunis's claim (KB commands are faster than standard Dragon DVC commands) is true. But, only with a KB command list that is not too crowded.
But....try for yourself ;-)

Speech Productivity has just been updated to version 2.4:

Smoother performance and better readability of text in all modules
Additional large Dictation box version added now you have 3 fast versions at your disposal:

- Clipboard version (dictation is saved to the clipboard)
- Non clipboard version (maintain original clipboard contents)
- Extra-large version (large box, large font)

Improved DVC/KnowBrainer Voice Commands

Additional safety pop-up menus to avoid accidental closing of Dictation box and Quick correct

Two new Power commands

Current customers get this version for free soon.

I'm also announcing the NL (Dutch) version of Speech Productivity:

Does this work in chrome, because I have trouble dictating there and also very much in Thunderbird. No text coming or lots of mistakes. Good video, how much is your program?

Thank you.

Grand,

Yes both the fast Dictation box and Quick store will work in Chrome and other browsers as well. With the included Power Commands the SP Dictation box automatically loads and unloads so rapidly that it will feel as if you're dictating larger parts of text directly into speech unfriendly applications.

When it comes to Thunderbird yes, that's a familiar problem. It's the best free email client out there but direct dictation, especially larger parts of text is quite messy. BTW an application-specific Thunderbird Power command was just added in version 2.4

I want to give Rob, the inventor of the SpeechProductivity utility, 5 stars for customer support. So far, I've only use the Quick Dictation Box and I find it really useful. I've had several questions for Rob and he's been really quick and helpful in his response. Highly recommended.

I would suggest disabling the Dragon option "use the Dictation Box for unsupported applications". Then think seriously about losing the dreadful Dragon web extension.

Then make it second nature to use Rob's Speechproductivity box. The large version appears in the middle of the screen with very large text. I'm putting 50,000 words a week through the box. This helps with eyesight as well as keyboard and mouse avoidance.

I use it principally in Thunderbird, Google Chrome, and Outlook 365.

I watched Rob's video of the dictation box, and I loved the big size and fast response times. For me, I have never liked the tiny Dragon dictation box. It is slow and always makes me feel like my world has shrunk down to a 2-inch little box on my big monitors. Ugh! Here's to Rob's big, fast, and roomy version.

Note that you can adjust the Dictation Box size for every window and it will usually remember your selection, font size and style. Also note that you can additionally substitute Notepad which also remembers its position, font style and size… as another option.

We also found the Dragon Dictation Box to be a little sluggish for our liking. It takes about 4 seconds to launch on our computer but you can optionally use the automatic Dictation Box option (default setting) which you may or may not like. When utilizing the automatic dictation option, you won't necessarily care how long the Dictation Box takes to open since it captures all of your dictation. When you transfer Dictation Box text, it works very quickly.

+1 for reminding that automatic dictation box captures the dictation utterance. No trigger word necessary.

No Dragon dictation box doesn't keep size when I start computer again and is too slow.
Automatic option Dragon dictation box not working for me..popping up when I don't need it.
Notepad not as good as Rob's dictation box.

Speech Productivity box is much better, thank you Rob also for service.

No Dragon dictation box doesn't keep size when I start computer again and is too slow.

Most likely because you don't understand how it works. All changes to the settings that you make for the dictation box are applied to the application you made them for, so you can set them individually, and they will stick across Windows reboots as they are saved to the options.ini file. And I can always open the dictation box in under a second, if I need to do this.

Other than that, if productivity in your profession is really a concern, I would strongly suggest doing away with any kind of workaround such as the dictation box, the fast dictation box or whatever so-called artificial intelligence workarounds. In my job as a loss adjuster, I just need to get my reports and papers done as fast as possible, and this is not for kidding, so I typically don't have time to waste with such toying.

To that end, I particularly choose to work in Dragon friendly, Select-and-Say enabled applications throughout and wouldn't even consider touching anything else for a minute. This is what being productive effectively boils down to if Dragon is an elementary tool in your profession.

toying ?

I understand how Dragon box works and resizing within Chrome not maintained after reboot.

SP box just works better and faster on my computer and works better with Chrome. Also want to choose to place dictation somewhere else afterwards if I want.

Is not for my profession, I am retired.

fwiw, I posted this on a thread a while back it might be worth checking out.

I went into the settings of the dictation box, and modified the copy to send a "Windows copy command" instead of sending a "control+C". and for me this significantly increases the speed of bringing up the dictation box to maybe a second. Changing it to not copy the text at all makes it may be marginally faster but I could not time that.
So my going theory is that in the case of control C Dragon is waiting for something. I don't know if it's waiting for notification from the clipboard or something else, but it definitely seems a little excessive.
ymmv

I confirmed this on 2 different machines and another dragon user did as well.

Alexander,

That's a good workaround.

Yes this makes a noticeable difference indeed. But the Dragon dictation box has to be adjusted for each application manually, same goes for the resize thing (if that works on your system). There appears to be no global setting.

Furthermore any accidental closing or pressing the Escape key will make you lose all your dictation which can be a real pain.

The Quick Dictation Box has a failsafe for both accidentally pressing the ESC key manually (MessageBox warning) and accidental closing of the box (one misplaced Alt+F4 SendKeys command or native click Close command). In those cases your dictation is automatically saved to the clipboard, so it's relatively risk-free.

Also, the Dragon dictation box 'locks' itself to the target application which is then not directly accessible anymore. The Quick Dictation Box is application-independent (solely transfers to the active application) and doesn't force focus, so you can always choose to transfer the text to another application.

This, of course, is a matter of personal taste and convenience. I'm planning to write an additional 'force focus' version as well.

Rob
