I came across a story tonight about a MAC user returning to Windows.  Among his insights:

"Dictation: Dragon dictation software performs miles better on Windows. Dictation is better integrated into the operating system. It’s faster and more accurate. The Mac version of Dragon is buggy, and no longer supported by Nuance. I presume because Apple has integrated into their operating system. The iPad version of VoiceOver (Apple’s brand name for dictation) shines. The desktop version is unusable: it maxes out the CPU and simply doesn’t work."

I vote to Windows also.

In our opinion, VoiceOver didn't factor in to Nuance's decision. We believe Nuance based their decision on the following 2 factors: 

1. Dragon for Mac sales were considerably smaller than Nuance anticipated. Nuance probably thought that Mac DPI 6 would go over much better than it did.

2. The Mac propriety operating system is frequently updated which typically disables Dragon. Mac development costs were considerably higher than Nuance anticipated as they had more difficulties working in the Mac environment; such as the security. 

Considering that Nuance bought out the previous Mac Dragon Dictate utility and devoted a lot of R&D, this was probably a tough decision.

We can verify that Apple's new iPad/iPhone numbering technology and speech recognition, which even includes Select-&-Say, is actually pretty good.

Macs are easier to buy. There are fewer models and configurations of Mac computers to choose from than there are Windows PCs - if only because only Apple makes Macs and anyone can make a Windows PC. ... But if you just want a good computer and don't want to do a ton of research, Apple makes it easier for you to pick.
