I am working a lot in tables in MS Word.

It used to be that 'insert row above' or 'insert one column to the right' etc worked fine. recently i noticed it doesn't. It just types 'row above', etc.

I don't want to disable the 'insert' command since that would mess up other uses of that command.

How can I get an easy way again to add rows and columns by voice?

(I am using KB and Dragon 15, and MS Word 2016)

It still seems to be mostly working for me. I've had success with the following commands:

Insert 5 x 7 table

Insert 3 rows above/below

Insert 2 columns to the left/right

Insert a row (by default, inserts the row above)

Insert a new row

Insert a new row above/below

Somewhat frustratingly, "insert row above" does not work, but "insert a row above" does work. The same with "insert new row" - this does not work, however "insert a new row" does work. Usually Nuance makes words like "a" optional, but not in this case.

I should mention I'm using Word 2013. Maybe it's different in Word 2016?

Thanks for the list, Grandslam. I use Word 2016 and will try these out soon and report back if they don't work.

Look for both Dragon & KnowBrainer command's that start with the word "Insert"; these might be global and/or application-specific. Probably the easiest way to do this would be to export all global & Word Dragon commands to an XML file; find your KnowBrainer commands file (MyKBCommands.XML) located here:

C:\Users\<your username here>\AppData\Roaming\KnowBrainer\KnowBrainerCommands\

Using a text editor, search all occasions of <Command name="Insert> (don't include the angle brackets but do include the opening quotation mark). Look for commands which are colliding with the ones which are not working for you.

I choose to replace the word "insert" with "inject" (I use "insert" a lot more than I do "inject" during the course of normal dictation and I have a custom word "literal inject" those times I do need to dictate that word).

We have eliminated global Command Names that begin with Insert, other than Insert emoji and while we thought Inject might be a good choice, it was hard to memorize so we have pulled them both. For the moment, we are going with application specific Excel commands which include InsertInsert <1to100> cellsInsert <1to100> rows, Insert Collums, Insert Cells, Insert Date, Insert Function, Insert Object, Insert RowsInsert Row and Insert Time.
