Hi.  I am using Dragon 15.61 and a Sennheiser SC 660 USB ML (504553) headset microphone for my job.  It is constantly putting "him, him, him" when it hears me breathe and even when I cover the microphone with my hand when I am waiting for people to talk.  It is driving me crazy!  Would this be an issue with my headphones or with Dragon?  If I need a new headset, can anyone recommend a good one? I paid a lot for this one but am willing to do whatever I need to do.  Thanks!

The Sennheiser SC 660 ML USB wired headset should work well for speech recognition and includes moderate noise filtering. We don't carry the SC 660 on our website because it simply isn't the best in its class. In our opinion, the best HD stereo USB wired headset is the Addasound KB SR2832 which features much better noise filtering and better HD stereo.

You might consider going wireless. The Sennheiser MB Pro2 UC/ML Bluetooth headset uses the same microphone element but is wireless and additionally works on your cell phone.

HOWEVER, our favorite is the new Shokz OpenComm UC Bone Conduction Bluetooth (wireless) headset which is the most accurate and most noise filtering microphone we have ever tested. It includes HD stereo, works on your cell phone and is much lighter/comfortable (in our opinion)

Enough with the advertising. Getting back to your problem…

1. Dragon is definitely not your problem. Your microphone may not be the problem either. You might be suffering from interference which often produces “him him him”. Try opening DragonPad, dictating a few words and then say play that back. You are listing for some form of interference which could be a grounding issue, a frayed microphone cable or a number of other possibilities

2. If your playback is clear, your microphone element may simply be out of phase, which cannot be fixed. However, it may still work well. Try moving your microphone element below your chin before breaking down and replacing it. You may think you need to dictate directly into the microphone element but this is no longer necessary for most microphones

Thank your for your reply!  I tried dictating in Dragon Pad and having it say it back, and it sounded fine.  I did forget to mention that sometimes it is completely fine, like today, not one issue of "him," and other times it is maddening and it will do it many times in a row, relentlessly.  I am not able to use wireless headphones because of my job.  I might look into getting some different ones, though, now that you said it is not a Dragon issue.  I was not sure what was causing it, so thank you for narrowing it down, and I will look at the other suggestions for headphones.  Thank you so much!

I think I might get the Addasound, and that way I can keep my current ones as a backup.  Thanks again!

Hi.  So you think the ADDASOUND would stop the 'him" problem?  Thanks again.

The Addasound microphone, or for that matter probably any microphone, will only eliminate the "him him him" interference if the current problem is caused by your Sennheiser microphone. However, if the interference is coming from an outside source, like for example AC hum, then a new microphone probably wouldn't fix the issue.

Okay.  Thanks so much for your honesty!  I am going to try a cheap pair right now and see what happens and then decide from there.  Again, thank you for your help!

I solved my "him him him" problems using the free Nvidia Broadcast noise filtering software, as described on this forum https://www.knowbrainer.com/forums/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=6&threadid=34359.

The recommendations from Lunis et al probably work for many if not most people, but did not always work for me with my Sennheiser MB Pro2 UC/ML Bluetooth headset. Possibly further debugging could solve the "him him him" problems without using Nvidia Broadcast - but since this noise filtering software is free, and since its predecessor Nvidia Voice ran on my laptop, why spend more time debugging?

Nowadays when I see "him him him" it nearly always means that Nvidia Broadcast is not running for some reason, often because the Nvidia GPU in my PC disappeared as a result of detaching the screen or other power management.

Nowadays I use "does it support Nvidia Broadcast" as a purchase criterion for a new PC, laptop/tablet or otherwise. Slightly constraining.

Some report that there is similar noise filtering software that does not require Nvidia GPUs. E.g. open source https://github.com/werman/noise-suppression-for-voice/releases. I have not tried such alternatives yet.

---

...I am very likely to try Lunis's recommended Shokz microphone soon, beause Nvidia Broadcast is *not* good enough for use on an airplane.  But then again, it is not clear if the Shokz is good enough for an airplane.  And I may not need to do so much travellinvg in the near future.

Wow, that sounds promising!  It sounds very confusing to me as I am not very savvy when it comes to this stuff, but I will check it out for sure.  Thanks so much!
