In the past my dragon profile (in DPME v 4)  took 10 or minutes to load. In the last week, the profile loads almost right away; however, if I try to make changes to the vocabulary and try to save the profile there are pop-ups that state "The speech engine returned the following error: Failed" and "Out of memory error. Save your work immediately to avoid any loss of data." Dragon then becomes unresponsive and I have to restart.

I am confused as to why the change in the program's behavior as I have not changed any Dragon settings nor installed any new programs.  I searched the forums as saw some old posts about the failed error message (possibly due to some issue with the profile and need to restore a backup?); however, I would hope to maintain the fast loading speed of the profile.

Anyone have insight as to how I might do this?

The most common Dragon problem is the user profile. As an experiment, try creating a new user profile; for test purposes. There are several possible problems including the %LOCALAPPDATA%\Nuance\NS15\Users\[your username]\tb folder not properly emptying itself when saving your profile. Thanks for the responses.

 

I'm able to create new profiles and also open other old profiles. Does that mean there's just an issue with the primary profile I was using?

User profile corruption is the most common Dragon issue. Also note that user profiles can become lethargic as they swell over time. This is why we created the our Dragon Installation/Training Guide, which includes pictorial details on the installation process, a list of Dragon commands organized by category and pictorial details on fixing 30 sandtraps.
