Do we know for sure that Nuance will no longer allow activation of DMPE 4 after March 31st? Is this legal? The statements I have seen use qualifying words like "may not be able to" activate. I prefer to use it for as long as possible. |

For all practical purposes, Nuance discontinued DMPE 4.3.1 support and manufacturing new licenses about 9 months ago. March 31st is only the official date. However, this decision may not hold up much longer because Nuance will not be making those decisions. We still have DMPE 4.3.1 in stock and suspect that Microsoft/Nuance may begin offering customers a complimentary copy of DMPE 4.3.1 after they sign up for the DMO lease. In other words customers would have both with most just using DMPE 4.3.1. Unfortunately, this leasing option would cost $99 per month. We believe Nuance plans on doing this with the Group versions of Dragon. In our opinion, there is really no reason for Nuance to deny DMPE 4.3.1 to anyone willing to pay for DMO ------------------------- Change "No" to "Know" w/KnowBrainer 2020 |

Hello! The "end of support" date only means that Nuance will no longer provide any help or fixes for the existing products, not even for security-related issues. You can continue to use the application you bought a license for, but do so at your own risk.
@Lunis: Interesting theory regarding the complimentary license, but this would not affect those users working with DMPE now since they already own a (perpetual) license.
For new users of DMO it could offer a way to perform tasks like transcription of prerecorded audio files or to perform deferred correction, though.

Thank you, however your responses do not address my question which was whether the software licenses can be activated (following a new installation) after March. Nuance could simply disable their license servers.

We all do not have access to reliable crystal balls, but it is highly unlikely that Nuance will turn off their licensing servers. Existing DPME licenses are perpetual licenses and do not contain any date by which you have to activate the license you purchased. If they did, the following legal shitstorm would make them re-activate the servers very quickly.
