Q:  is there a way to rearrange the "Quick Links"  in Microsoft Edge's "New tab" page?

Google Chrome allows me to drag to rearrange these shortcuts, and also to change the name and URL.   AFAICT MS Edge only allows me to rename or remove, and not rearrange.

 

Q:  is there a way to turn off the "Microsoft Rewards" icon  in the  upper right part of the MS Edge "New tab" page -  next to the gear icon?

I keep seeing people like Lunis recommend Microsoft Edge over Google Chrome.  Supposedly better integration with Dragon.

 

For that matter I really want the feature whereby Edge tabs appear in the Alt-Tab task switcher. I cannot tell you how many times I have said "DRACO swap tasks"  and then realized that I really should have swapped Chrome tabs and not  Windows  tasks.

 

But every time I start using Edge I get annoyed by things like the following:

 

AFAIK the Quick Links on Edge's "New Tab" Cannot easily be rearranged. They can be renamed, and removed, but they cannot be changed in order. Whereas in Chrome I can  change their name and their URL target, and rearrange the order. It sounds like a tiny little thing, but it was actually  the last straw that caused me to  give up on using MS Edge and switch back to using  Google Chrome. 

 

... I started off ranting about Microsoft's "My Feed",  but then found the Custom/"No Content" setting. Blessed quiet!

 

Now, does anybody know how to turn off the bloody Microsoft rewards medallion in the upper right next to the gear settings icon?.

Answers like these are easy to find when you say your KnowBrainer Google for <Disable Microsoft Reward points in Edge> command. Of course the manual approach works just as well

But that still leaves my major  complaint:  cannot rearrange the quick links on the MS Edge new tab page.

I was surprised at how many standard features I depend on Google Chrome are not available in Microsoft Edge,  which is based on much of the same open source code.

You might try Brave, which is also based on Chromium. But Brave tabs do not appear in the Allt+Tab switcher, as far as I know. Maybe there is a way to do that. Good idea.

Do Brave and the other Chromium-based browsers like DuckDuckGo have the speech recognition goodness that make people like Microsoft Edge over Google Chrome?

Of course they have the privacy goodness...

Brave works well with Dragon. Takes all the same extensions, too. I haven't tried the Duck Duck Go browser, but I should.

Come for the privacy, stay for the speech recognition!

Edit: I don't think the Duck Duck Go browser is available for Windows, only iOS and Android. There are some other chromium-based browsers worth considering, but Brave seems the best of the bunch to me.

DuckDuckGo is not a browser. It is a search engine, like Google and Bing. One of the reasons for its popularity is privacy. DuckDuckGo doesn't sell your browser history to businesses who target your browser. Our personal preference is Google and using a third-party blocking utility like AdBlock+, which works most of the time. Some websites will deny or restrict access when they sense an ad blocking utility. We usually just go somewhere else. We get most of our news from the default window in Microsoft Edge. AdBlock+ does a good job at blocking advertising. We really hate movement ads that in our opinion, shouldn't even be legal. Fortunately, free third-party ad blockers are pretty good at blocking that crap and we don't care who Google sells our browsing history to.

Minor correction: There are Duck Duck Go browsers for IOS and Android.  

 

While I appreciate your many corrections of my  incorrect Lunis - heaven knows I make many of them -  in this case your correction is incorrect.   Or at least it will be incorrect soon supposedly. 

 

My googling to correct  the miscorrection,   doesn't really answer the question about whether  the DuckDuckGo "browser app" will have  MS Edge's  goodness with respect to speech recognition:  it will be based on the "OS native  rendering engine", which on Windows is arguably chromium blink / Edge WebView2, in much the same way  all iOS web browsers are based on Apples WebKit.

 

But being based on the same rendering technology doesn't mean it will have the same higher-level UI stuff.  in much the same way that Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge  differ, even though  they share a lot of underlying technology.

 

My bet is probably not :-(.   Especially since  it is now more and more standard for speech recognition stuff to call out the cloud for help, which somewhat goes against DuckDuckGo's privacy imperative. :-(

The DuckDuckGo browser is now available as a public beta. I haven't tried it yet. Doesn't accept extensions yet, so I don't think you can dictate into it with Dragon.
