Can You Use Bluetooth Microphones with NaturallySpeaking?
We get this question so often that we figured it would make a good blog posting. The short answer is "no" - you can not (or at least should not) use a bluetooth microphone with Dragon NaturallySpeaking. The reason for this is two-fold: First is the issue of the microphone's sampling rate. The vast majority of the bluetooth microphones that are available today (even the expensive high-end units) use a sampling rate of 4 KHz, which limits the accuracy of the microphone when used with a human voice. Secondly, many of the bluetooth microphones don't position the microphone element well for voice recognition. When looking at bluetooth microphones like those used with cell phones, the microphone element is typically not directly in front of the user's mouth. This can result in the microphone picking up both a distorted voice signal as well as ambient background noise.
If it is in your heart to use a wireless microphone with Dragon NaturallySpeaking, all is not lost.
