How do I turn off the vista feature where Vista highlights the command menus or carries out certain wndow commands. When I say a word that I want to be included in my sentence such as file, or help or print, copy etc, Vista thinks I want to open up the file menu or the help menu or print the document. This can be very frustrating. Is there a way to turn this off.

Can anyone help with what should be an easy question?

It depends on how much you want to change the behavior... There are a couple things that could help you out. Without changing anything, if you know ahead of time that there will be a conflict you can say "Insert File", and that'll insert the word File even if there's a file menu. You could change a value in the registry and disable comanding UI elements entirely (not ideal, but if you find no value in it, just turn it off!). ------------------------- -- This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.

There is always the painfully slow way:
Say "press F press I press L press E". ------------------------- Windows Speech Recognition Macros, DragonNS Premium 11.5, Windows 7 Home Premium, ASUS P5B-E, 2.40 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 3 GB RAM, SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio, USB 3-in-1 Tablemike |

Is there any way to set WSR so that it only listens for macros? I is WSR for controls in a game. A game that I voice chat with others in. Everything is working fine with the macros I made, I just don't want random events going off while I am chatting.

Most of us are NaturallySpeaking users so our collective WSR knowledge might be a bit weak but there is a similar situation in NaturallySpeaking where the word “file” is a command to open the file menu. The simplest solution is to avoid dictating menu items by themselves. For example: If you dictate the phrase “under the file menu” only your dictation will appear. Your dictation will also be much more accurate because WSR can examine your entire phrase. For example, if we dictate the word “their” NaturallySpeaking has no idea if we want “they’re, there or their” until we use it in a phrase. You can probably switch to Dictation Mode in WSR but our recommendation is to stop dictating single words unless you absolutely have to. If you are simply selecting a misrecognition, select several words at a time instead of a single word. However, in DNS when we absolutely have to dictate a single word we can say “no-caps file” or “Cap file” (depending on its position in your sentence) to ensure that our text isn't misinterpreted as a command. Although switching to Dictation Mode would be very effective for this situation, it limits your options and we recommend avoiding it.
