I'd just upgraded from Vista 32/64-bit to Windows 7 ultimate and I'm having a fit using Windows speech recognition. No longer can I say “open Amazon” which is my favorites in a folder called shopping. It worked fine with the vista 32/64 bit WSR. Now I have select favorites and then move down to the desired folder, open it and then select the location for Amazon. Five individual steps instead of being able to say one command. Has anybody experienced this problem?

We can't help you much with WSR but if you switch to NaturallySpeaking (as noted in your signature) and contact us for a complimentary copy of KnowBrainer 2011 (if you don't already have it), we have included an Advanced-Scripting global command, that you can personalize, called Go To <Website> that will allow you to go to any website with a single phrase. Example: If we're dictating an e-mail message in Outlook and say Go to KnowBrainer Forum a new tab will open, in your favorite browser, to the KnowBrainer Forum. When you are done with the forum say Close Tab and if you have multiple tabs open you can say something like 3rd Tab to jump to the third tab or even say Close 2nd Tab.

I actually use both WSR and dragon alternately. Each one of them has their pluses and minuses. And I've never really been able to get my head around the KnowBrainer software. I don't have the 2011 version and it sounds like the advanced-scripting global command feature is exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks

VPC, Upgrading your Windows OS presents plenty of opportunities for pesky problems! In order for "open Amazon" to work in Internet Explorer, you would need a Windows Speech Recognition Macro written that opens the web site based on that saying. If you did a clean install when you upgraded Windows, perhaps the free WSR Macros software isn't installed? Or if it is installed, perhaps it's not running. Two more things to check if WSR Macros is running: make sure any macros you want are in the "Speech Macros" folder inside your user folder. You may also have to digitally "sign" them if the Macro Security Level is set to High or Medium. Opening each macro file should walk you through the signing process. (Or you can avoid signing by setting the Macro Security level to Low if you're comfortable with that; right-click the WSR Macros icon in the task bar tray to access the security options.) Good luck! -Russ |

It sounds like the scripting tool will work. Now I have to just find out if I actually have it installed and learn how to use it. I'm really not that computer savvy, but always willing to learn. Thank you for your reply
