I did a search and didn't find an answer to this problem. So here goes, I was working on a unrelated problem and supposedly resetting the Internet explorer settings under the tools, Internet options, advanced tab, would fix the problem. Not only did it not work but it messed up WSR's ability to show numbers within the pages of Internet Explorer or any Microsoft Office program. Since I'm a quadriplegic I rely heavily on voice recognition programs. I use both DNS and WSR alternately because each has their strengths and their weaknesses. Does anybody know by any chance, how to solve this problem? Since it's going to be very difficult to live without that feature working correctly, I am going to have to reset my laptop back to original factory settings to see if that works. So I'm posting here with hopes that somebody can save me from having to do that which would require me reloading all of my programs again. Thanks in advance for any help I can get.

PS I did try a system restore and it didn't resolve the problem

Themajickman,

There are certain settings in the Internet options under the Tools menu in Internet Explorer that will inadvertently cause the ShowNumbers command in WSR to fail or not work at all.

Try going back into Internet options and resetting everything to the default settings. That should resolve it. However, be careful when you modify the Internet options settings because all you have to do is tweak a couple of things for this to happen.. Since I don't know what settings you changed, returning everything to the default settings is the only viable option. Also, running a system restore doesn't necessarily fix the problem because Internet Explorer options settings do not generally show up in system restore. They are usually fixed to IE. Further, running a system restore does not recommended if you're using DNS because it can corrupt your user profile, from which there is no recovery unless you have exported your user profiles prior to doing so or your backup is intact.

PS, many users are unaware of the fact that if they perform a system restore and it screws anything up, you can undo system restores. In other words, if you perform a system restore, Windows automatically saves the original registry entries prior to running a system restore and let you literally "go back" (undo it). I would strongly recommend that you read the help on a system restore so that you know how to do this primarily because the procedure is slightly different whether you're running Windows 7/Vista or Windows XP. Nevertheless a system restore can be undone.

The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong, it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair.- Douglas Adams

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately I have no idea which settings were changed because I just clicked the button to reset them. I also tried the system restore but unfortunately my system restore was not functioning. So as a last resort I decided to reset my computer to its original factory shipping state. Luckily I have a backup of all of my favorites/desktop/documents/programs/etc. etc. so it was relatively painless. After that everything seems be working just fine. Thanks again
