I have a priest that uses a Apple computer and was wondering if the Dragon Dictate, and, possibly Knowbrainer would work on his computer, together?

The short answer is no. KnowBrainer is PC only for the time being. It (and other third party apps that make Dragon better, like VoicePower, ShowNumbersPlus and AutoHotKey) are all compelling reasons to "keep the PC if you wanna be hands free." The longer answer is that maybe (and I stress maybe) KnowBrainer isn't as necessary for Mac users of Dragon. In some respects, Dragon for Mac is extremely limited. For instance, you can't activate hyperlinks on a web page by voice, out of the box. In other respects, Dragon for Mac is surprisingly robust. Its integration with AppleScript and Automator mean that it's fairly easy to whip up viable custom commands to overcome Dragon for Mac's limitations.

Of course, the Mountain Lion OS has server-side dictation (like in the Dragon apps for Android and iOS) built into it, Dragon Express (a $50 "Dragon lite" app that lets you do basic voice control and local dictation via a Dictation Box), and Siri on the way... so it might be possible to cobble together a decent hands-free solution.

That said: if you really value voice control and need to be hands free, stick with your PC.

I am going to purchase a new Apple MacBook Pro with the retina display. It will have 16 gb of ram. Does dragon work better on a PC or a Mac or a Mac running parallels so essentially running as a PC.

Dragon NaturallySpeaking only runs under Windows, or more succinctly, on a Windows platform (PC). To run it on your MacBook Pro you would have to create a Windows environment using Parallels or any compatible VMware product. In other words, DNS is strictly a PC application.

Dragon doesn't work any better or worse on a PC or Mac given the above. How well it performs is essentially based on the CPU (make, model, speed), the amount of L2 or L3 cache, the amount and speed of your RAM, yada yada yada. Again, the only issue is that if you're going to run it on a MacBook Pro, it has to run in a Windows environment using either Parallels or a compatible VMware product. The only real this advantage to using the Mac is the time required to setup and configure the separate Windows platform. Otherwise, you can go to the Mac version of DNS, which, generally speaking, is not yet anywhere near close to DNS for Windows on the PC.
