My apologies if this is not the correct area, but our problem does appear to be a software/operating system/hardware one. Apologies also for my layman's description of the issues.

Hi, I work in Hansard, Canberra  as an editor. Our parliamentary publishing system (hansard production system) is a highly adapted Sharepoint system for producing customised Word documents for publishing online and in print. A bunch of us use DNS for our transcription and editing work. There are other editors who type.

Yesterday there was an update for this HPS system. We also had DNS Pro v11.0 upgraded yesterday to 11.5. As further background, we will be moving to Windows 7 but not for a couple of months. Meanwhile we remain in a Vista 32-bit environment, which I understand has issues related to access to memory for Dragon.  However, V11.0 seemed to work reasonably well in our Vista environment up to this time.

There are now issues with freezing in this Word environment for Dragon users. It appears to be a resources issue which is particularly apparent when multiple Word documents are open and there is switching between them, and saving of the HPS Word document in this Sharepoint environment. This seems to be exacerbated when the microphone is left on when switching between the Word documents in the HPS/Sharepoint/ environment. There are no apparent problems for people who are not using DNS.

Some DNS users are having 11.5 reloaded as something may have compromised the initial load. Whether this is an underlying issue has not been verified yet. The freezing can be accompanied by this (Sorry, don't know how to copy the image, but it the box says):

COM returned an unexpected error code: Details are The RPC server is unavailable.

(RPC_S_SERVER_UNAVAILABLE, 1722)

However, our own central IT people have indicated that this is not a/the problem.

Are there any known issues/problems regarding V11.5, a Vista operating system and the interaction with a customised Word environment within Sharepoint? Has going to 11.5 been the final straw in a resources sense? As I said, Windows 7 is acouple of months off yet.

I realise this is a very broad question, but any general observations or past experience may help in isolating the issue(s) at play here.

Thanks in anticipation.

Richard

The RPC_S_Server_Unavailable, 1722 error typically displays when Microsoft Word crashes while NaturallySpeaking is still attempting to communicate with it. Unfortunately, the error doesn't give any real information other than to tell you that NaturallySpeaking can no longer communicate with Microsoft Word, which is what appears to be having the issue. Unfortunately that's not a real answer but as close as we can come to answering this question.

Thank you for your reply, Lunis. If it were a Sharepoint/Word issue it would be happening for all users. It is only happening with editors using DNS (now 11.5). A couple of users will  back to v11.0 and see if that makes a difference. As I said, the two new variables are a new version of a customised Sharepoint/Word publishing system and an upgrade to V11.5. I thought there may have been some history of problems with 11.5 and Vista. We are still a couple of months off getting Windows 7.

Cheers

Richard

Hello,

I am experiencing the same problem.

I just upgrade from DNS 10 to 11.5 and natspeak.exe freezes MS Word (2007) documents extracted from SharePoint 2007.

Did you had a solution ?

Best regards

Kyle

Kyle,

There are numerous possible reasons for this. However, it's most likely Microsoft Word that's causing natspeak to freeze. Try the following:

1. Run a repair of Microsoft Office 2007 and or, if necessary, completely uninstall Microsoft office 2007 and reinstall it. Don't worry about losing your data because you won't. It's perfectly safe to uninstall and reinstall Microsoft Office.

2. If #1 doesn't work, then try running a Repair of DNS 11.5 (i.e., Windows Control Panel | Programs and Features | Dragon NaturallySpeaking 11 | Change | Repair).

3. Attach a copy of your Dragon log with your next reply to this collection of threads. If #1 and #2 don't resolve the problem, then the Dragon log may give us some indication of what the problem is and where the solution might lie.
