So I was at a computer store with my 13 year old son since he wants an Ipad3 for school (yea, right). He is using his own money. So we were playing with it and it has voice recognition. He knows how to dictate via me so he said a few silly lines and without any training it was 100% accurate. So he said some more and more and yes, 100%. So it peeked my interest and I said a standard line and again without any training 100% accurate. So then I picked it up and dictated a standard medical sentence and it got all my medical terms 100% accurate. Since there was only one Ipad 3 in the store and my son rudely ripped it out of my hands......I could not play more but very uncanny........ He is reading reviews (overheated possible issue) but I was very intrigued with the accuracy. I should also state that my allergies are full bore in Sunny, hot Chicago and I was holding the Ipad 3 close to my face just because I did not know where the mic was. My son held it a comfortable distance on the table. Any others play with this thing?? Larry |

Maybe because the new iPad just came out?

We've only had our iPad 2 for about 3 months and won't be picking up an iPad 3 until it becomes available on our frequent flyer mile electronics list which won't be until Apple is minimally off the waitlist. We expect the waitlist last about another 3 months :-(

Ive had a look at this. The reason why its so accurate is that it uses the Nuance technology. Only downside is you have to be connected to the net to use it as you speech goes to a server, gets transcribed and comes back. You dont even need to create a voice profile. Pretty cool. |

Yea, I know it is Nuance but I was doing medical sentences and was shocked that it got the surgical medical terms to that extent. I am not saying it will replace anything just intrigued that it was that good.

I think it is safe to assume that the recognition engine is the same as that in the iPhone 4S, for Siri.

Larry, I'm not surprised because Nuance uses a backend server with a huge speaker independent Acoustic Model, a very large vocabulary, and a comprehensive Language Model. Whatever you dictate sent to that server transcribed and then returned back to you. It's like using DNS with an absolutely phenomenal user profile (speaker independent).Chuck Runquist Creative genius is the ability to understand the elegance and reliability of simplicity. - Unknown -------------------------

It definitely sounds intriguing but unfortunately, I will have to wait until the price drops.
