Hi. Here's a mystery that I've never been able to solve. If you have any suggestions, they'd be most appreciated.

My USB microphone is plugged into a USB port in the back of my desktop. My external speakers are built into my primary monitor. For the most part, I have turned the various "beeps" and "noises" that are baked into Windows off.

Whenever I ask DNS to "read that," it successfully reads whatever I had asked it to read — with the sound coming from the external speakers that are built into my primary monitor — but immediately thereafter, without fail, DNS stops working, and I receive the following error message: "Dragon NaturallySpeaking was unable to communicate with your sound system, please check that the recording device is enabled in Windows."

I restart DNS, and then I'm back in business.

As an experiment, I designated the speaker that is built into my corded handheld microphone as the speaker for sound from my desktop. Unfortunately, that didn't change the result. (And, in any event, the quality of the sound from that speaker is fairly poor, so that would be a bad substitute for the speakers that are built into my primary monitor.)

Any ideas?

Thank you.

Russell

RussellD,

Two questions that quickly come to mind:

1. What happens if you say: "Play That Back' rather than "Read That"?

2. When you say "Read That", what is recorded as being recognized in the Recognition History?

MDH –

I've never tried "Play That Back" before. When I tried it just now, my voice was played back to me.

Just now, "Read That" in the Recognition History was recognized as a command. And it worked — without causing DNS to fail! Strange. The problem hasn't been intermittent. I don't know what to say, other than "fantastic!" and I will let you know if I experience the problem again.

Many thanks.

Russell

NaturallySpeaking has problems with some integrated soundcards; especially Realtek. You might consider right-clicking on the speaker icon, in your taskbar, clicking Playback devices and changing your default playback device to your Digta SonicMic II since it has a built-in speaker. The forum Member Profile section really comes in handy
