After discussion in another topic, I realize that I could probably get superior DNS performance on all of my computers if I purchase a better headset and USB external sound card. In all but my lab computer, I'm using the on-mobo sound cards so will purchase a USB external. Before making that purchase, it is difficult from the information on the KB site to tell the following:

  1. Do both the ANC half and full duplex USBs have stereo microphone inputs -- the reason is that it is important is that, as a musician, I would like to make decent onsite recordings with my laptop (not net book) with just a single-point stereo microphone, or two good singles. So, I need that stereo input function.
  2. It would appear that the full duplex ANC is just the size (apprx) of a USB thumb drive. The half duplex looks like a large unit that dangles from the USB plug (is that what Chuck referred to as a dongle?). If both cards are equal acoustically, wouldn't the plugin full duplex be more convenient?
  3. Given my potential recording needs over and above DNS, would it make sense to purchase the Buddy 7 -- anything to gain (note: I already have an USB external mixer/sound card if I want to make super recordings, I'm trying to miniaturize the equipment I have to carry so the "minimal" rig will always be in the bag. BTW, I was amused to see that, when Naxos came to record in our concert hall, they had a USB board just feeding onto their laptop! Gone are the days of huge boards, power units and 30 ips tape drives!).

I'd like to get this order for the USB and the headset underway asap and your information would be most helpful.

Thanks,

maestrogn

1. We believe that the PureAudio USB-SA Pod is the only USB soundcard on our website that will accept dual microphone input because it includes the Andrea Electronics Voice Array microphone.

2. You are correct about the size. The significantly larger 1\2 duplex soundcard is now a dinosaur and will eventually be good discontinued.

3. The
Buddy 7G USB Pod external USB soundcard is the same quality as the Buddy 6G and PureAudio but includes noise filtering. However, before purchasing the Buddy 7G, you should double check the microphone no-fly zone list because the Buddy 7G will not work on a number of microphones.

Sorry to keep you waiting on this posting but the only time we can post, during CES week, is during the evenings.

Thank you for the reply. Sorry that I bothered you during CES --I've never been there, but it must be intense.

I'll complete my order for the headset and USB port when I'm back at this desk later this morning and hope that, when CES is over (and successful for you) that my order can be shipped.

No worries. We always have a little time before CES opens, like right now and and in the evening but today is the last day and we should be back up to a full head of steam by tomorrow

Thank you, Lunis. I just received an e-mail saying that the headset and USB had been shipped. All best in the pack up from the convention – I know that can be a lot of work, but (speaking from experience) one senses that it's the end of a jampacked, intensive week and that somehow makes the pack-up-and-go a bit easier.

I ordered the KnowBrainer brand headset along with the full-duplex ANC USB. Thanks for your advice.
