I was noticing a LOT of Processes running when I opened Task Manager. The number of running Processes is probably slowing my machine down. What are the "needed" Processes in Windows Task Manager? What are the ones that I really need to keep in order to run Word, DNS 11 Pro, KnowBrainer and VoicePower? Many thanks!!!!! Unfortunately this isn't a question that any of us can fully answer because every system is unique. We have approximately 60 processes running on our office computer ranging from our unnecessary Tom-Tom GPS updater, which is probably only used a couple of times a year, to numerous necessary utilities such as an odd application called pidgin.exe. If anything sounded like an unnecessary utility, “pidgin” certainly sounds like it would fit the criteria but if we End Task that application, we will no longer be connected to our other associates (which now span multiple countries) because it's an instant messaging application. This is why we say that each 1 of us is in a unique situation which makes giving out this type of advice, somewhat risky. Rather than making any recommendations to close Task Manager processes (which will simply return when you reboot your computer), how about the following:
We recommend saying your KnowBrainer Start MS Config command which will open up the System Configuration utility and additionally click the Startup tab. If you're not currently using KnowBrainer, substitute start system configuration and manually click the Startup tab. Unfortunately the System Configuration box isn't resizable and could use a bit of Microsoft tweaking. When you examine the Startup items, it should give you a hint as to what these utilities perform. -------------------------
