I'm shopping for a new notebook, one which will be used primarily for work (in a periodontal practice), where I currently use DNS pro 10.1, and an dental EMR. A specialty practice necessitates dictating quite a few letters/reports. I am planning to buy DNS pro 11.5, and am going to upgrade from my Lenovo x61t. I prefer smaller notebooks (screen 14" or less), but find many of the smaller notebooks are not available with the higher level i7 processors. Some are available with the i7- 2620qm (with 4mb of l3 cache). How critical is this for DNS 11.5? In the 15" notebooks there are certainly some available with the i7 processors with 6 and 8 mb of L3 cache. I'm OK to get a 15" notebook, if I will I see a significant difference in functionality and performance.

Any advice would be most welcome. Thanks, Jim

I am partially disabled and laptop weight is a really big deal to me. Until now I could never find a laptop that was light enough and powerful enough for DNS. I got a Japanese Panasonic Win 7 1.9 lb laptop with a dual core i7-2620M 2.7 GHz, 4 MB cache core and 8 gigs of memory. It about as fast (subjectively) as as my previous generation, XP, i7 965 desk top for straight dictation but with no real multi-tasking (with the same DNS settings). You will pay a huge premium for such a light weight laptop but the Lenovo's are available with that processor

A quad core would be better for me as my usual work patterns involve many high resource applications open at once but I have too much work right now to migrate my firm all to the new platform. One of our folks got an M-Tech with a 2720QM, after he destroyed his Thinkpad, and he says it is the first time that he was not frustrated trying to make continuous speech a realistic work alternative.

Something between these configuration will be quite satisfactory but go to a quad core if you require multi-tasking and multiple applications open in addition to DNS.

Thank you for your help. I went to the m-tech website but I didn't obviously see a laptop with a smaller screen and a quad core i7 processor. I emailed them but haven't received a reply (yet). Once again thanks for your response. Jim

If you want the i7 quadcore, it seems that 15 inch is the smallest form factor available. Anything smaller right now is the i7 dual core.
