Are throat mikes such as Stryker Lite practical speech input devices? http://www.clearercom.com/pc_throat_mic.htm

The short answer is no. The technology simply isn't quite there yet.

We should also point out that Stryker contacted us and would like us to try out their latest microphone. Although we don't believe it will work for speech recognition we are planning on giving it another go and if it turns out that this microphone can be used, we will report it here ;-)

I'm afraid we cannot recommend the new Stryker throat microphone for speech recognition. The company's first mistake was to insist on using a momentary switch with encapsulated 550 hour battery which has to be changed by the end-user. The microphone switch requires you to hold the switch down whenever you dictate. But even if the switch was bypassed the microphone couldn't pass the Audio Setup Wizard and that's pretty much the end of the story. :-(
