I just replaced my Airline77 headset which is approximately 5 years old. I had suspected that it was beginning to deteriorate because of a slight falloff in recognition of the hard to distinguish words and commands relative to my use of my AT headset which I used extensively on a recent business trip (I maintain separate profiles for the two microphones).

Since I used my old Airline77 headset between five and 12 hours every day for the last five years (including drinking hot beverages and eating lunch without bothering to take it off) I'm very happy with the five years I got out of it.

The new headset did give me a noticeable bounce in accuracy and the new headset does also have a noticeable advantage over the AT.

FWIW and your mileage will vary.

including drinking hot beverages

Phil,

I cannot speak for drinking hot beverages with a microphone being involved, but as far as drinking alcoholic beverages, I couldn't say it has any wearing off effect.

A microphone elements biggest enemy is saliva which penetrates the foam windscreen and eventually corrodes the element. This will typically result in a very slow accuracy decay.
