I have been switching back and forth between my boom headset and my AT headset, depending on if I need earphones or not. Everything worked fine a couple of times but, now I am running into problems. The AT headset will not pass the microphone check. It does fine with the volume check but when I get the microphone and sound system part of the test it fails.

My accuracy still seems to be okay however it is just taking a lot longer to transcribe my dictation than it was previously.

I am using the buddy 6G along with Andrea converter. No extension cord is be used at the moment, I have been using the microphone without the extension cord for a couple of days. As of yesterday I started to have difficulty.

My SWAG is a loose physical connect to the Buddy. I could not get the AT headset to work reliably with the Buddy pod due to the poor physical connection without an adapter cord.

Phil

a loose connection could be but, it doesn't seem likely to me because everything seems to be connected well and I have been using the same connection for quite some time without any difficulty.

In less, did you have the same difficulty? It worked for a couple of days and then it would no longer work properly.

Phil, you could have quite possibly been correct. I took all of the components apart unplugged them and reconnected them. Now everything seems to be working okay.

Come to think of it, I received the system tone telling me that my USB pod was ready to go when I plugged it in. I do not think I heard that the last couple of times I plugged it into the computer. This time I did plug it into a different USB port. Possibly that was the problem.

I studied dictating again and my poor audio input problem is persisting. Dragon is displaying the poor audio icon at the top of the Dragon bar. I am able to get to the volume check okay, but when I get to the second part I fail.

The reason why you didn't see the USB message is because you had already plugged your USB soundcard into that same port earlier. Each time you plug your USB soundcard into a different port, you will see the Windows found new hardware messages but once Windows has engaged the driver, there will be no more messages on that USB port. This is not likely connected to your issue.

We find the poor audio messages a little too easy to trip and recommend turning off this annoying feature but when NaturallySpeaking takes an unusual amount of time to transcribe your dictation, there's definitely a major problem. Have you tried rerunning the Audio Check, gently moving the microphone cable back and forth and pressing the Play button in the last stage to listen to the recording? Whenever you have a microphone issue, ALWAYS run the Audio Check and play back the recording to listen for issues. You may be suffering from environmental interference or a frayed microphone cable. The previous test should help to identify the issue. If it turns out to be the microphone, Audio-Technica (330) 686-2600 includes a one-year manufacturer warranty.

Lunis, thank you for the information I will definitely give it a try and let you all know how it works.

I was not talking about the USB message that tells you a new device is connected. I was talking about the sound that plays when you remove or plug in a USB device.

Ah…. Got it. Windows doesn't always give you the traditional bing sound when you plug or unplug a USB device although it typically tries to . However, it's isn't likely the issue.

I knew that you didn't always get the beep. But I wasn't sure if it didn't occasionally indicate a possible issue.

I plugged my Audio Technica headset back in without the use of an extension cord. Just like before I was using the Andrea plug and the headset. This time it passed both stages of the microphone check without a single issue. I tried listening to the playback of my voice and I cannot hear any unwanted noises as I wiggled the cord back and forth. So for the moment everything seems to be okay.
However, it happened frequently enough that it seems like there might be an issue somewhere.

I switched microphones again and now the Audio Technica microphone is failing the sound check again. I have been thinking about getting a second soundcard just to make it easier so that I don't have to constantly plug and unplug so much.

Does this seem like a problem that would be fixed with a different soundcard? Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.
