I've just bought a Sennheiser ME 3 microphone which I am having trouble with using, mainly because I find the thing very uncomfortable and I am constantly having to ask my carers to adjust it.
There only seems to be one way to wear it on your head i.e. over each year and looping round the back of your head with the microphone sitting to the right hand side of your mouth. I would say I've got an average sized head (others may disagree) and I just cannot find our way of wearing this microphone comfortably. It is a very good microphone (apart from the fact that it doesn't stay on your head), can anyone suggest any solutions, is there an alternate head mount available for example? Also, does anyone know if the microphone can be positioned on the left-hand side of your mouth? Thanks Gary and |

Until fairly recently, we considered the Sennheiser ME3 microphone to be the gold standard but over the last week or so, all of our Sennheiser ME3 customers, who purchased the new Audio-Technica Pro 8HEmW microphone (w/KB PLUS PACK), have informed us that they prefer the Pro 8HEmW because it's more comfortable, less expensive, slightly more accurate, notably better at rejecting noise and can be worn on either side of your head or optionally on top of your head in a more traditional style. The Pro 8HEmW also includes a swivel making it easier to get the microphone out of your way when you need to. You will find more information in our ME3_vs_Pro 8HEmW review. You might consider asking your reseller (including us) if you can return it. Most speech recognition resellers offer flexible return options.
We noted that you are in the UK. Speech recognition resellers are just finding out about the Pro 8HEmW so it may be temporarily difficult to source this item in the UK but we believe that your local speech recognition resellers, Graham Henry at graham@itspeaking.com and Peter Maddern at mail@speechempoweredcomputing.co.uk will want to carry it when they find out about it. Please note that the original Pro 8HEmW only has a 4 foot cord and requires an extension cord. We couldn't find the Pro 8HEmW in the UK. The Pro 8HEcW and Pro 8HEX models are far more common but require a special adapter as they don't feature a standard soundcard 3.5 mm plug. You can view a lot of responses from forum members who performed A/B comparison when you click the previous link. -------------------------

I read your reviews on the Pro-HE mW, before buying the Sennheiser, and tried to buy one in the UK with no success . I'm returning the Sennheiser today, I found it a really good microphone especially regarding noise suppression, but it's just not practical to ask my carer is to keep adjusting it all the time. Best wishes Gary |

Gary, given that you are going to return your Sennheiser ME-3; you may wish to consider the SpeechWare 3-in-1 microphone as a replacement. It is available from a UK reseller: monkey8, who is a prolific contributor to the KnowBrainer forum. Also, you should know this microphone has a setting, which means it is permanently powered on, so if you restart your computer by voice, you do not need somebody physically present, to physically switch the microphone on for you. It also comes with a utility designed by monkey8, which means you can switch Dragon on even though it is 'switched off' purely by your voice. It is truly impressive to see it in action. Another alternative would be to perhaps consider purchasing a microphone such as the Samson Q7 & a Hosea lead, which would plug into your existing soundcard, along with getting a microphone stand that is suitable/appropriate to your physical situation and circumstances. Finally, if you have a disability, you qualify for a free copy of the KnowBrainer software, which adds thousands of extra commands, and is fully compatible with Dragon NaturallySpeaking. ------------------------- DNS 12.0 Professional, Windows 7, Intel Core i7 2630QM, 16GB of RAM. Second-Generation SpeechWare 6-in-1. |

I did test the speechware 3 in 1 microphone but I couldn't get on with it due to my disability.
I'll keep searching. Gary |

We are currently attempting to interest 3 UK Nuance-certified resellers in carrying the Pro 8HEmW so you will hopefully soon have a local option.
