I must've missed the discussion about the 3-in-1 TableMike AGC. When I look at the properties for this microphone, the AGC box is unchecked. If I check the box, the 3-in-1 TableMike will turn it off anyway. Doesn't this cause a problem because the microphone volume level will always be on super high and hence will be very sensitive to any other noise in the office.

Interestingly enough, we just finished writing our new four-page SpeechWare 3-in-1 user guide (lots of pictures). You don't have to worry about the AGC because it's automatic. The 3-in-1 microphone includes its own variation of the AGC. As your volume level drops, the 3-in-1 increases the volume input while simultaneously applying what we believe to be upper midrange parametric EQ to help eliminate the unwanted hiss that can occur when amplifying an input signal. Although we don't recommend the following procedure, if you really want to make the 3-in-1 sensitive (such as dictating over some crazy distance) you could try backing off to about 3 feet when running the Audio Check. This should trigger the AGC but we don't recommend the procedure because it would probably make the microphone too sensitive.
When you lower your voice or back away from the microphone, it will automatically compensate by increasing the volume input level but if you're workspace starts getting a little noisy, you can move closer to the microphone which will reverse the effect by making your microphone less sensitive. No need to rerun the Audio Check. However, if you're workspace becomes too noisy, for the auto level control to handle, you could switch to the blue light mode which bypasses the amplifier and EQ. You also have to get a bit closer to the microphone to use the blue light setting because it is designed for slightly noisier environments, previous versions of NaturallySpeaking, VoIP and even HD audio podcasts. HOWEVER, if your environment gets really really noisy you can completely bypass the 3-in-1 by plugging a good noise canceling microphone, into the 3-in-1’s microphone input jack, such as the new Audio-Technica Pro 8HEmW microphone (did you notice that sleazy way we slipped in the commercial) which can all but cancel out the noise of a freight train. SpeechWare tried to make this microphone as versatile as possible. That's why they included a separate microphone input jack and even a high fidelity headset output jack. Keep in mind that this is the 1st of 3 models. The 6-in-1 will include additional amenities while the 9-in-1 will go the extra mile by including -------------------------

thanks Lunis. Interesting comments. Regarding the sleazy way that you slipped in a commercial, I have been meaning to mention that you need to add a disclaimer on your site that users will be required to sign that they will agree to hold you and your company harmless for any incurable addiction they develop for microphones and KnowBrainer software during the course of visiting your website and reading your posts!
